Megan's Summer Vacation

Hi, everyone! My name is Megan Sheridan, I am seventeen years old, and live in DeWitt, Michigan.

This summer, my family and I decided to take a vacation back to Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Our vacation was completely spontaneous and we left only three weeks before school started. We stayed in a sun bleached hotel right on the beach, and while the weather forecast predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms, our stay was completely sunny, with highs in the low hundreds. To keep cool, we would swim in the ocean, which had strong rip currents and tall waves for most of our vacation, or swim in the pool, which was packed with children and parents. I opted for the ocean, since the pool was noisy and chaotic, and decided to fight the waves and current with my little brothers. We would climb the 15 foot sand dunes along the board walk until we reached the blinding white beach and salty air. There weren’t many people on the beach so late in the summer, and we set up our blankets and umbrella right in front of the walk way. We would walk miles down the beach, watching seagulls and sand pipers fight over clams, fishermen in the shallows, and surfers ride the crashing waves. As our week long vacation neared its end, however, the ocean calmed until, on the last day, there were nearly no waves at all; as if it were anticipating our leave.

  1. Hey Megan, that must have been an awesome vacation especially if it was supposed to rain. I have always wanted to see the ocean and you got to swim in it, which is pretty sweet that you got to. That’s funny how the waves were slowing down as soon as you were leaving. Anyway, sounded like you had an amazing last minute summer vacation.

I love spontaneous trips just the other winter me and my friend Chris went
to Toledo just out of spit to see his family one day. North Carolina is
so beautiful isn’t it I’ve only been once. The beach house sounds like a
blast I’m kind of jealous that I wasn’t there when I went I stayed in the
city and then we went to the beach.
