The author influence makes you think about if people with mental handicaps should be left by themselves with no supervision for periods of time. The authors opinion of mentally handicapped people is that they should not be left with no supervision, because they will go and get themselves into trouble over and over again. Yes, the novel has changed the way I think about people with mental disabilities, it made me question whether or not they should be able to live by themselves with little supervision. I still think they should be able to live by themselves, but I think that they should be watched heavily by neighbors and by a caretakers and should not be left alone for long. The way people with mental disabilities are treated has changed greatly over the years. Back then they were treated badly and no one understood what was wrong with them or why they were dumb, this lead them to have trouble finding work or even fitting in with society, but now thanks to research they're better understood and now they are treated a lot better, they can receive special help to help them function in society, and they can even get jobs easily.
