Flowers for Algernon (Week 2)

In Flowers for Algernon, the author really made me think that for a handicap anything could be possible for them. Even though the change didn't last a lifetime, he tried to show that there's a second chance for everyone, even for those who we think don't have much of a chance. I thought that the author's opinion on handicaps was that even though they are seem different or act like it, that they are still people and we shouldn't make fun of them cause it's not fair to them to think we care bout them when some of us could care less. The way this book makes me think bout mentally disabled people is what I have always thought when it comes to someone like that is I shouldn't judge them by who they are just because they seem different. I don't like it when people make fun of me behind my back so why should I do it to someone who's not even going to understand what's happening to them. They way mentally disabled people are treated now for some people may not have changed that much. There are still going to be some people who don't care if the hurt someone's feelings cause they know they aren't going to understand, but for others they treat them as if they wasn't anything wrong with them. They give them normal jobs and help them only when they ask for it and try and give them that little bit of freedom they think they deserve.
