Stereotypes Of Mice and Men by Tori DeSira
In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck there were many stereotypes being one the slutty women in the book, which was Curly's wife. A lot of the men in the book didn't like her very much and thought she was too flirty too be a married women. Although she hasn't done anything wrong because, she was just a lonely newly wed that didn't have anyone too talk too there on the ranch. The guys jumped too conclusion thinking she was a whore when really she was faithful to her husband Curly. The worst thing Curly's wife had done was talk too Lennie alone in the barn and allowed him too pet her hair because it resulted in her being killed by Lennie. Another stereotype in the book is the tuff guy named Curly thinking he can pick on anyone he wants too because he can beat you up if you do anything too mess with him or bug him. Curly in the book got beat up by Lennie because he came too his own defense after he was punching him the face this proved that not all stereotypes about being a bully makes you strong because even bullies can be beaten up by others.

Tori i completely agree with you on Curley and Curley's wife as being sterotypes. Curley also gave me the strongest reaction in a negitive way too. Just cause of how he bullies Lennie and tries to bully other charcters and how he didnt like the fact that Lennie was bigger then him. I also agree that this novel Of Mice and Men should be read in High School due to the fact that it teaches kids who your real friends are. If you have a friend that sticks up for you then that person is a true friend but if they dont and let you get hurt and hang there then they arent a true friend. Also it teaches kids that people with disibilities arent always vulnerable and weak they can stick up for themselves it just might take them longer to do and that they may suprise you on how well they can do something that maybe you cant do.
ReplyDeleteTori, I agree with you. I didn’t think that Curley’s wife was a slut because she didn’t do anything wrong. The only thing that she was doing was being flirty, so it seems that everyone that thinks Curley’s wife is a slut thinks that anyone who is flirty is also a slut. I don’t even think that Curley’s wife having Lennie pet her hair wasn’t even bad from the book’s perspective of it. From how the book described it made it not seem bad but the movie made her seem like she was trying to flirt with him. That doesn’t make sense though because she had just been telling him that he was dumb and was like a little kid. The stereotype about Curley was really good, I hadn’t even thought about that. I agree with you though that everyone did have the stereotype about him and they shouldn’t have because he didn’t seem that tough. I agree with everything that you said though and I enjoyed reading your post. :)
