week 11 ec

I agree when Bradburry says that people will stop reading on their own accord, because it’s obvious that as the years goes on, and more technology advances, reading won’t become the only way for people to learn things. The internet has been an easy way for people to receive information rather quickly, and same with television and cell phones. They’ve even come out with electronics that you can have multiple books on so you don’t have to carry around all of the books you own. Bradburrys prediction was just a way for us to expect all that technology was going to do to us in the future and he might have exaggerated it a little, but he was trying to get his point across that pretty soon, technology is going to be everything. People everywhere are always on their electronics texting or emailing. You rarely see people calling each other or talking in person anymore. There is rarely any communication in the world as it is now, just imagine what is going to happen in years from now. It’s almost a scary thought! Well I just thought I would do this blog because it's extra credit and with these next couple books we have to read and quizzes....I might need it! BYE.

post 9 chuckie f

I learned a lot about the presentations. They were very educational .Some of them were very sad like the child abuse ones. I learn that every 20 minutes a child is being beaten by an adult.I learn a lot about capital punishment, that Michigan does not have it. but i also learned that people charged with murder can also be pardon/ exonerated from the death penalty. I also found out that people can be killed with a firing squad. Which is when the C.Os kill the inmates. Then there is lethal injection. that is when there are three poison , and they eject one of the poisons into the inmates body one at a time. I am not for capital punishment because if you kill someone and they are charged with murder. They are being killed by the government. I think they should spend the rest of there life in prison.

Dependent on the Media; Week 10

For my week 10 post I am going to pick to write about the 3rd option. Personally, I think that kids these days are way too dependent on the media. Over the past 10 years or so I think it’s gotten much worse than it has ever been before. With all of the new technologies and smart phones coming out it’s just making it easier and easier for people to be involved in the latest media going on. There are so many kids that are like in 2nd grade and they already have cell phones. Like really? I didn’t get one until I was in 8th grade and even then that used to be a big deal! It’s almost sad how times have changed. Because it’s not for the better. With all of the new technologies, there is so communication with people face to face anymore. Everything is all over texts or e-mails. In the novel, “Fahrenheit 451” Mildred has an obsession with her walls and her “family” on the television. She doesn’t even have a family of her own really because she is so focused on her little shows. She’s brainwashed! People are too materialistic and superficial and are so caught up in this future fantasy world they live in they don’t even know what reality is like. I worry that as time goes on our future will be like that. That is a scary thought! I hope it doesn’t get to that point. Ahh k bye!

post 5 chuckie ford

Innocence is when you don't do anything bad on purpose. The person that is innocent is Jane because she tries to do well on everything she does. Holden came in her life, didnt do his work, was making Jane fail her classes and she was not acting like herself. That I like her but I cant talk to her because I'm a failure ,I fail all my classes, and no one really likes me. I feel Holden is scared because he never talked to girls and he has low self confidence, people yell at him because he doesn't do good in school. He is also nervous because doesn't have any friends. He is also lazy and does not try in school.

Why I chose STiLL ALiCE -Ryan Makinen Week 7

My novel of choice is STiLL ALiCE. I selected this novel because the main character Alice gets diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She is a Harvard professor, and so this novel relates to Flowers for Algernon because after the surgery Charlie became a genius like Alice and then after some time, he regressed back to himself. Alice was a very intelligent Harvard professor who was very successful, and then her brain functioning slowly started to digress. This novel also relates to Of Mice and Men because Lennie had a very hard time remembering things, and he was dependent on George. After Alice was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, she became very dependent on her husband John. The main connection that Alice has with John is that they are both professors at the University of Harvard. I actually already read this book, and I thought that it was really good. Alice had a lot of disagreements between her and her daughter, and in the end of the novel her daughter Lydia stayed by her side and helped her through things even though at that point Alice didn't know who she was. John also ended up staying with Alice which I am glad he did because I was building suspicion that he might leave her because he wanted to move on with his life.

my awful Prezi

So when jake and i went to present i was really scared to present because our prezi wasnt thought out at all and it was a very one sided topic. The thing that scared me is that we didn't do much research and it was mostly opinion based and we did a really bad job. I dont think the class liked it all however it was a very controversial topic. As far as the other presentations went i thought they were all very boring and yeah i fell asleep during almost every single one. I thought the project was really boring and i didnt like doing a project on the stupid books we read. I think everyone can agree with that because the books were incredibly stupid and boring. I dont like blogger dot com at all and i hope the new site works a little better but i also hate doing blogs period. So i am going to pretend that I am actually writing something worth reading to just get to the two hundred word minimum.

Presentations!

I was extremely nervous to do my presentation on Animal Assisted Therapy, but then when I was the last person in the class to go, it really wasn't that bad. I always get anxiety about presentations, because I don't like to publicly speak, but I have been with these classmates for so long, that it is starting to seem almost normal to present in front of them. I'm hoping that I get a good grade on it because I worked pretty hard on it, and invested quite a bit of time. From other people's projects, I learned about a lot of different things. Many of the presentations made me nervous and uncomfortable though, because they were about touchy subjects including child abuse, and cutting. The child abuse presentations made me the most uncomfortable, especially the one that including the video of the mom that was making her child eat hot sauce because of something he did at school. She then made him take a cold shower as another punishment for what he had done. The video made me so nervous and unhappy that there are parents that are really like that. It is so wrong for parents to treat their children, or anybody, like that!

Presentations

After listening and reviewing all of the presentations that we have heard I am shocked that so many people did the worst things that they could have done such as child abuse, animal cruelty, testing on animals, euthanasia, and many others. All of these presentations made me think that we have a very messed up society and that things that are happening like this should not be going on at all. It is 1 a horrible thing to do, and 2 how could anyone ever do something like that, some of the people that abuse children are just insane because I don't ever think I could hurt a small child like some of these people do because it is just horrible. These people must not have a conscious or they just think everything they do is really funny and they must have a really messed up mind to do all that to a small kid. I would some day want to meet some of these parents and just ask them why would they do such a thing, did they ever think what might happen if this happened to them, or do they really think that this is the right thing that should be done about the situation if there is one in the first place. I couldn't imagine why people would abuse a child if they are not doing anything wrong the person just wants to hit someone and not care about it later. Euthanasia is a different story because I wouldn't disagree with it, some people just suffer so much that they should be able to have someone put them down like a dog if they really wanted to and that was an approprite time to do it, and also under the right conditions, sometimes if someone is like unable to move or see anything because maybe of some horrible accident then I would imagine they wouldn't want to have to lay in a bed all day and just sit there doing nothing I think they would maybe just want to get it over with but its not okay to do when someone is forcing them to do it like if they just can't afford to keep them alive or if they just want them out of their lives and not have to deal with them anymore.

Reflection on Presentations

Overall I believe that the presentations were good. I learned a lot about child abuse since most people chose that topic. It is very saddening and depressing to see what some kids have to go through. The video with the parent whipping his child with a belt touched me the most. Nobody should ever have to go through something as painful and horrible as their parents beating them. Another topic that I learned about is suicide. Many of these topics that people chose to present angered me. I was impressed with some peoples prezi presentations. It is a different way to convey information and it is also a more creative alternative to a regular power point.
My presentation could have been better. I struggled to put a video on my power point which may have caused my presentation to be a little short. However I did successfully meet the works cited requirements. I also used graphics to prove my point and I also connected my topic to two of the books we read in class, Of Mice and Men and The Catcher in the Rye. I also am not a very strong public speaker. I become nervous and often find myself rushing through the presentation to just get it over with rather than slowing down and making my point clear.

Thoughts on the Presentations

I think that these presentations helped me learn a lot. The most interesting topic in my opinion was my own. I think the topic of Euthanasia was very interesting. Especially because me and Kyle had to debate it. Even though at first I didn’t even agree with the side of the argument I had to debate, after researching it, I came around to agree with that side of the argument. As for all the rest of the presentations, I think that the most interesting one was all of them on child abuse. I think that this is a very interesting topic because all of the statistics really surprised me. Most everything that I heard in the presentations I agreed with. I think that one thing I didn’t agree with was when JL said that he thinks capital punishment should be allowed. I do not think that capital punishment should be allowed in any of the states. I think that giving the example of taking a life because of a crime would give younger kids the okay to have the “eye for an eye” way of life. I think that this would set up the world for even more crime. If peace is the goal in this world, then this is the wrong thing to do in my opinion. In the end, I thought all the presentations were very interesting and I think that the research project were very informative. I think that it would be a good idea to do one again.

Week 9 Tyler E. Presentations

Fleg's presentation was my favorite, because his topic, of human experimentation, was very interesting with all the different examples he had about three of the major powerhouses of the time, the USA, Russia, and Germany. I thought that all of the experiments that he talked about were very interesting especially the Russian experiments, the one involving lack of sleep and also the ones involving the reanimation of dogs, the second one is relevant to my presentation, because I did animals in experimental research and that is exactly what the Russians did with the dogs. I have to disagree with the results of the experiment about the lack of sleep though, because I feel that those effects were more than likely caused by the gas that was keeping them awake than from the lack of sleep. I was a little disappointed with how I didn't get to see how the presentation ended, because we only got to see like half of the Russian experiments and we didn't get to see any of the American experiments, and I bet that those would have really surprised a lot of people in the class. I'm definitely going to add some more to mine now that I've seen what other people have done with there presentations.
for my project i chose to study and talk about suicide, i chose it because it was a topic lots of people are ignorant about, and they make jokes but dont understand how real of a topic it is. this is something that lots of people deal with weather its close friends or a friend of a friend. this was a way to show the warning signs and how to help them out if they think that someone may dealing with something like lonliness..and how to help them get through it. umm what i learned from others peoples project well from macys and erins were that abortion was legal till up to nine months in some states, but most of the info i learned was stuff i already had heard at some point. and from megans i thought that was interesting that the results of her thing was the opposite of what i thought. i thought that there would be a lot more people who admitted to reading stuff online about them selves was not true.

Presentation Thoughts Peter V.

At the beginning of last week, I was very excited to see everyone's presentations. For the most part, I thought all of the presentations were pretty good. I learned a lot of information on topics I did not know much about previously. Most of the presentations were on sad topics that people needed to know about. For example, there was one presentation on suicide and how it is one hundred percent preventable. In the slide show, it has a movie where a depressed little girl flips through cards saying how much she hated her life. Three days later the girl committed suicide. It was very sad to watch, but I think the class needed to see this video. If everyone saw this video I think people would be nicer to certain people and maybe in result, a few suicides could be prevented. In another presentation, Colin showed us how humans and animals can be used as test dummy's for experiments. In his show there was a video of a dog's head functioning with no body. When I saw this I was instantly mind blown! I could not believe it was possible, however when they tried the same experiment on humans, it did not work.
Colan F's presentation about the hume expermentations blew me away. he did a good job presenting the info and aslo it had some very schoking infor too. the video about the zombie dog was unbeliveable, this could pretty much mean in the future for people to live for a very long time. just the fact that the dog didnt have any body and it was still living. Also that it still had all 5 of its sences, if people can utalize this, it would be a major playing card in the medical field. but like collan siad we souldnt experment on people to their expece it just isnt right. And also i found a lot of other presentations intresting but not like this one. good job.

presentations JMP

One topic that I found disturbing was Ashley Brewster’s presentation on suicide and the video that showed the girl with the note cards, it really made you pay attention. The video of the child abuse that was shown by tori really made me angry that some one could do those kinds of things to a child, I became frustrated at first so I put my head down so that I would not have to watch that horrible atrocity that had taken place however putting my head down it took away my vision however I was still able to hear what was going on so I then left the room and just needed to be a lone for a while and out of that environment. Luckily I did refrain from hitting any thing however it did cross my mind to do so. I was then not productive the rest of the day because I could not get the horrible image of that eleventh month old baby being hit and thrown around like a rag doll the video made me become angry to the point that if that babysitter had been in the room I would not have been able to control my actions at that point in time.

Speak week 8 JMP

My book was no doubt a chick book, it talked about girl problems and issues that only a female would face. I am however glad that I read it though. The book gave me an insight on to a bit of what a teenage girl is faced with. The book also shows the severity of words and the harms that spreading a rumor about some one can push them to the point of wanting to take their own life. I know that the book is fiction but it is a cold real fact that teens do commit suicide, luckily in the book the main character did not commit suicide, thank goodness, the main topic that started the rumors and the name calling is Melinda was raped at a party so she called the cops and that is why no one liked her in high school. However she becomes a hero when people finally find out what had happened to her, when Andy (the boy that raped her that summer) tried to do so again and she was saved by the lacrosse team. So, I was skeptical when I started reading the book however after I finished reading it I was glad that I did so because it expanded my range of books that I read.

Presentations

So far I have really enjoyed listening and learning about the different topics discussed in the the presentations. I feel that this was a good project to get our class to express how they feel about a certain subject. Making this project our own choice is also a great idea. I can really see how our classmates have dug deep into their topic and have really made a connection with it. The prezi's are especially interesting because of the way they are set up. For my next project I will most likely be doing a prezi because of the way it kept my attention even if the topic didn't interest me. But overall the projects were very good. Visually, I can also see how they were thinking about their topic the whole time. Keeping in mind that our class would critique them in any way. Another thing I have seen in the class's presentations is the way each and every person presents. I had no idea the confidence most of the kids in my grade had to go up in front of the class and put together a well thought out presentation. Noticing these types of actions will later help me in future projects.

presentation review

Reflecting upon the several presentations observed in class on Thursday I have a few choice things to say about a few of the presentations, chief of which would be great job, those of you who gave your presentations on Thursday. Although some were better than others, all of the presentations had some unique features that stood out from the others. Megan’s presentation about cyber bullying was really neat with the whole interactive poll integrated in the presentation. The animals for therapeutic purposes presentation OBVIOUSLY had a lot of effort put into organizing and constructing the presentation. The anti abortion presentation was interesting, although it ran into a few issues trying to get the media portion of the presentation to play smoothly. But that is just how computers are. Overall the presentations were informative, interesting, and well organized. I am not exactly sure how my presentation will be compared to the rest; in fact I personally think it is rather bland with nothing unique about it with the exception of one home-made graphic. While I hope that my presentation is not as boring and un interesting as I personally feel that it is I DO know the subject matter is interesting and controversial as it DIRECTLY affects students, teachers, society, and American ideology

novel o choice 2

So far I am pretty well entertained by my novel of choice the hunger games. While it is rather haunting the thought that I might actually live to see the day that this kind of scenario becomes reality, the novel itself is still a good read. The story line is interesting with several un expected and a few expected twists, and the extensive detailed descriptions of the environment and the characters involved at any given time really paints a vivid image of what is going on in the story in the readers mind. I am a fairly picky reader and I really like this book. It is a well written book that includes obvious fictional elements combined with just enough realism that you often find yourself imagining yourself in the nation of Panem as a spectator of the hunger games wanting to look away but un able to, much like a car crash. Despite the brutality and grisly deaths in these bloodbaths the whole nation is forced to watch as two children from each of the twelve districts participate in a fight to the death as punishment and deterrent of rebellion. However, the hunger games ironically causes the main character Katniss to ATTEMPT to kill the president of the capital and start another rebellion

Week 9 Presentations

I really like to watch the people's presentations who did prezi's because it is really visual and i make me want to watch and learn about what those people had to say about the topic they chose. Prezi’s also have different shapes and zoom in and out while moving to different slides, they have a lot of colors to choose from and borders/Frames. Prezi's just make presentations more interesting and I'm glad that Mrs. Marble showed it to us :) So far i have really enjoyed Ashley Brewster's, Colleen Curtiss's presentation's the most. Ashley had the topic of Suicide and it really made me think about how i treat others and how others treat each other and it made me feel sad for the girl in the video who went through so much and three days after making that video and putting it on YouTube killed herself. You know we don't know what everyone deals with in their lives and yet we still continue to treat others the way we do weather it's good or bad. Sometimes we don’t think it will hurt them but in reality it does. Colleen had the topic of horses for therapy. This presentation made me happy and yet sad at the same time because of how that little girl couldn't walk normal and needed help from the horse and then at the end she could walk! I have really enjoyed watching and learning about all these different and sometimes different topics! i find the child abuse and suicide most interesting subjects. good job everyone!

novel o choice

For my novel of choice I have decided to read the book the hunger games because the story of the novel series is in many aspects similar to the previous three novels we have read in class, and this is the only friggin book I found that qualifies as an assignment book that i think is going to be even in the slightest bit interesting. According to the summaries I’ve read the book is based in post apocalyptic America in a new nation called Panem. Panem is separated into the capital and 13 different districts, although district 13 has been completely obliterated in the capitals efforts to quell rebellion. As punishment for the rebellion the capital forces each district to send two children between the ages of 12 and 18 to the hunger games, which is a brutal and bloody fight to the death for the capitals entertainment and the torment of the families that sent “tributes” to the games. Two tributes from each district, one boy one girl, are sent to their publicized and brutalized demise as punishment and entertainment for the capital. The winner of the games goes home and for the next year their home district is showered with food and wealth from the capital while the other 11 districts are left to fend for themselves

week 9 austen connelly

I really like the presentations with videos and prezis because I am a visual learner and I understand things better when I can see them in action or how they are in the real life. The prezi are way better than power point because they are like a continuous movie without the need to click everytime and they can zoom and and out to make the presentation more interesting to watch and it catches the audiences attention 100% better than a normal boring power point Also I like when people add videos to the presentations because it is interesting and not boring and can help tell a story or get the point across while still entertaining me and keeping my attention glued to the person giving the presentation. Overall i wish i would have done a prezi because it is way better and to get information across and keep attention of all listeners.

PaTrIcK's WeEk 9 PoSt

I really liked the prezi posts with how they shifted around and just the general layout. I also thought it was really cool how m.r. had us interact using cell phones with the poll and everything and it actually let you see the real percentage of how common something was in your own school and classroom. c.n. also had a cool posting with all the hidden around the photo and showed a lot of statics. I think we need a stretch break though, to get up and help pass the time..... I'm going to bed now

Presentations; lisa willems

In the presentations that I’ve seen so far have taught me a lot. They have taught me about topics that I knew little to nothing about. My reactions to some of the presentations is that they can be kind of boring just listening to talking, but there were others that were very interesting. My favorite presentations have been the presentations with videos or something that interact with the class. I haven’t presented my presentation yet, but I hopefully will tomorrow. I hope that my presentation goes well because I feel that my information is interesting and my video should get the attention of the class. The only things that I’m worried about for my presentation is that if I didn’t cite my facts how I was supposed and that it is going to bore the class. I really like my topic of child abuse and I can only hope the rest of the class does too. I have a feeling that I’m going to want to change how I talked about things because when I get in front of the class I get nervous and mess up what I’m trying to say. Overall, I think the presentations are a good way to inform the class about things some people may not know a lot about.

Research presentations.

At first I was a bit nervous about doing this project because I HATE presenting in front of people, absolutely hate it. But it was actually very interesting to learn about all these different things. I still need to present mine but it shouldn't be too bad I guess. It just makes me very nervous, I don't like bieng judged I guess. Anyways I've learned a lot by these presentations, something that really stuck with me was the one about the Wild Child. I just don't understand how a father could just strap their child to a potty seat and just go on living their life and just neglecting their child. It just broke my heart people are just insane and I don't get it. I highly doubt they would have wanted to live their life like that. Then on top of that she couldn't even communicate with anyone because no one taught her how to talk. She never even had the chance to live a normal life after that, I mean how could you. You'd be scared for life....
Another thing was Tori's video of the nanny beating the baby...that was horrible! I could never do that to anyone. It was so hard to watch because it was just an innocent baby not bothering anyone and the nanny just lost it and was so horrible. You'd have to have no heart for anything if you're that low of a person to do that. Some people just really don't care about anything but themselves. I know that people have a past and we don't always know what has happened to them but that's no way to take it out on anyone else. Let alone someone who is defenseless.

Nick I. Week 9 post

So far I have been pretty pleased with all of the presentations that I have seen so far. I feel that so far, everyone has been doing a great job on there presentations. It has been very interesting learning to hear about what other people have found during there research. There have been a few topics that I have been interested in so far. One is about all of the presentations about child abuse. I myself, did my presentation about child abuse and I was completely shocked about what I had found. I was very saddened when I came across some of the information that I found. I couldn't believe some of the statistics that I had seen. One thing that I saw that completely was taken back by was the video that Tori showed in her presentation. The video was about a nanny that was beating a poor, innocent young infant. I was amazed at what I saw. It made me very angry as well. I would be so furious had that been my child. This is completely unacceptable and things like this should not be tolerated. The consequences that that lady had to have were completely deserved. Nobody should be able to get away with abuse like this against poor innocent children. In my presentation I thought that I did pretty well. The only thing that I know for a fact that I was marked down for was that I did not quote my sources during my presentation. I thought that we only needed to have the works cited page at the end of the power point. Other than that, I was very pleased with how my presentation went.

week 9 post

On Thursday, November 3 students in my Senior English class gave presentations using a variety of technologies such as Prezi, PowerPoint, and Googledocs. After listening to some of the presentations I feel everyone did a great job. Students presented about animals for therapy, abortion and cyber bullying. My favorite presentation was Erin and Macy’s about abortion. I thought they had good debate and that both sides brought up good points to support their side of the issue. Erin and Macy used a Prezi for their presentation and I really liked how it worked with their presentation. I liked how the content moved around to different slides. It is a nice change from PowerPoint for presentation. I think I might use it for my next presentation. Another presentation that I liked was Megan’s on the topic of Cyberbullying. It was fun having Megan use her cell phone to do a poll. Audrey did a presentation on Animal Therapy. That was different and I didn’t know very much about her topic so I enjoyed learning about it. My presentation was about Book Censorship. I get very nervous when I have to do presentations. I think I did a pretty good job but I think I could have got my point across better if I wasn’t so nervous.

PREZIS are COOL

The presentations so far have been pretty good and educational. Some of the presentations were a little disturbing, but the presenters were just doing their jobs, and informing us about their topics. I have not presented yet. But, from what I have seen, I should not be nervous about it. Everyone has seemed to be very relaxed up there in front of the class.
I really liked the prezis, they were fun to watch and kept everyone interested in the presentation. However, I did not do a prezi because when I went on the site, it looked really difficult and complex, kind of scaring me away, and aiming me back towards a regular boring powerpoint. The next time I do a presentation though, I'll most definitely consider doing a prezi instead of a powerpoint slide show.
My favorite presentation so far was on Friday, by Megan Sheridan. She did a prezi, and it was very well organized and interesting, keeping everyone on track. Not only was her prezi well put together, but she did well making eye contact, and putting the right words together to give the audience her message, clearly stating her thesis.
My research project is on animal-assisted therapy. I knew a little bit about it before I had started my research, but I was still surprised how much animals can help in almost every kind of therapy, including occupational, physical, emotional, and mental therapy, and increasing educational abilities. One kind of occupational/physical therapy that I found out about was hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is basically horse therapy. Horses are used as a way to improve posture, and are also good for emotional and mental purposes. Animals are naturally therapeutic to humans. Pets listen, they do not give unwanted feed back, and they do not hold anything against you. Animals are always ready for loving affection, and that is part of the reason they are so therapeutic to the human mind.

yaay presentations!!!

The presentations I had the pleasure of viewing were all pretty good. I thought that my peers did a really nice job at answering their research questions. I also think that the thesis' that were presented where very strong. The topics chosen were also interesting topics that really captured the audience... or the class. My personal favorite was the Animal Therepy presentation. I think that is just cause I love animals. But, I also find it very intriguing that animals can be used to heal children or help heal them.
But I am going to talk about my presentation. I used Google Apps for my presentation website. I thought about using Prezi, but it spun around too much for my likings and made me dizzy. But anyways! My thing is on child abuse and the long and short term effects it can have a child. It is around twelve or thirteen slides long. It has a lot of information and I think it will be a very good presentation when I present. I have quite a few pictures to portray that child abuse is not a good thing. I also have a video on a woman who was on Dr. Phil, and it is a very sad video.

power points week 9 conors

I liked prezi it made making the power point fun.  It was a little hard trying to figure out what everything was and how it worked but once you figured it out you could do anything you pretty much wanted to with your power point. The other power points weren’t bad but you just kind of zone out and before you know it their down and on to the next one.  I liked kristen’s with all her bullet points on different hands and switching back in forth.  Megan’s one was cool to, how it involved the the class and the texting pools.  A couple others were cool to. But, some where boring and like I said you just zone.  Let’s see what else to say… well there was one where it didn’t make sense or it was just me, I don’t know it was a little confusing and felt like they didn’t even cover there thesis but I don’t know, kind of just trying to string it out, just so I can get 200 words. Marble should of made it shorter because there’s really not a lot to say this week. Anyone else agree?

Final Presentations.

There were many good presentation on Thursday. I Thought the prezi power points were very cool. I thought they were cool because it was something different from the regular old power points. I also thought that they were cool how they zoomed around pictures and hoped back and forth to illustrations. I also liked how you could put words and stuff inside of pictures. Some presentations that I thought were good were Trey Williams because he had a lot of interesting info and statistics on book censorship. I also thought that Erins and Macy's presentation was good because it was a debate. I liked this because it was something out of the norm. Also I liked how they both showed different views on abortion. Lastly I like Megan R. presentation because we got to use our cell phones for some polls for cyber bulling. I also like how we got to see how many people got bullied or not. I also like how she did this because it caught all of our attentions. I also like how colorful her slides were and I liked the statistic she had on cyber bulling. Over all I thought all of the presentations were good so far In class.

Presentation thoughts - Week 9, Troy Schott

I thought the presentations this week were very interesting because they talked about a lot of different things I really did not know about before. I really liked Audrey’s presentation was especially interesting because I have a few pets and I really like animals. It’s amazing to me that animals could have such significant effects on people. I thought that Megan’s presentation was good too, but I thought that it was a little too long. I always find presentations less interesting the longer they get, just because I can’t stay focused for a really long time. However, I thought that what she said about cyber bullying was interesting because things like Facebook and twitter have become such a big part of people’s lives. Also, I liked how she got people involved with the texting thing. That made the presentation for the class a lot more interesting I think. Macy and Erin’s presentation was really well done, and that was the first time I had seen people use prezi. Everyone who used it on Thursday did a really nice job, and I think prezi might be something that I will try and use in the future. Hopefully my presentation goes as well as everyone else’s has gone so far.

Prezintations :)

In our class, we only got to a few presentations, but from what I saw I thought that the people who went did a really good job and I learned a lot of information from their presentations! Everything that everyone said I agreed with. The debate about abortion was really good and interesting and Macy and Erin made it look really cute. I thought it was cool that Megan had us all do that texting thing to make a point about the research topic she had. I don’t really have any other questions about the presentations, I feel like we did a really good job covering a lot. My favorite presentation that I saw so far was Macy and Erin’s because they used prezi and they made their slides look really cute and cool the way that they transitioned and the colors and the video clip! My presentation was about Animal Therapy. I don’t know how well I did because I get really nervous when I have to present in front of people, but I tried to cover a lot of the general stuff about the topic and I think it was good that I had a clip within my presentation. I think that I was nervous so I talked really fast and rushed through it to get it over with so I hope that it was 4 minutes! But I thought that my presentation overall went well. I should have talked more about the slides but I’m glad that I got it over with and I hope that I did well on it!

Presentations

I really enjoyed listening to everyone's projects. I took in a lot of new interesting new facts. I thought the presentations about child abuse were very touching and some made me want to cry. The video that Tori showed was ridiculous! I thought it was fake...I dont know how someone can treat an innocent child like that. An interesting fact I learned from her slide show was that 3 million children are abused everyday. That isa crazy number and that is only for the united states. Her text in poll thing was really cool. It was a nice touch to the presentation. Another presentation I liked was Colin's. Even though he didn't get to finish his because the bell rang, I was very interested in all the things he was saying about human experiments. Some of the stuff he was saying made me cringe though. I didn't know people were that sick to do such terrible experiments to other people. I can't wait to hear the rest of his presentation.
I also really like the whole prezi thing. People's slide were put together so sweet. I wish I had done one.
Kyle and Ryans presentaion was very interesting. I never thought about euthanasia before and whether or not a person has a right to take their own life at a certain point of their suffering. I think that if a person is really bad and just wants to die, and the family has its closure with the person then it should be okay to have doctor assisted suicide. It's such a sad thing to experience though, but either way the person is going to die.
I really liked the research projects and can't wait to do another one!

Thoughts on the Final Projects

I am slightly nervous about how my presentation fared. I usually do not look at the slideshow during my presentation because I have my typed notes. However, during my prezi, I feel like I was looking at the projection the entire time. Perhaps it was from the fact that I was using prezi for the first time, and the animation distracted me. As for my information, I feel confident in the sources I have chosen concerning human experimentation, but would have liked to use my notes during the presentation (since they contained extra facts and examples).

The presentations so far have been very interesting. I thought Austin and Damien’s project was well done. Their exhibition of both sides of the argument concerning capital punishment kept the audience’s attention. I also enjoyed the fact that they smoothly transitioned from one counterargument to another. I recall Austin arguing against the death penalty, and Damien for it (I apologize if I’m wrong!). Between the two perspectives, I personally agree with Austin for most crime cases. In cases where a prisoner has committed atrocious crimes (in appalling numbers), and displays a lack of humanity and social connection, I agree with Damien. However, like Damien stated, the death penalty should be used rarely and only in response to the most heinous of crimes.

Week 9

The presentations that were presented so far have been very different but interesting. I've noticed most of the topics people choose were more on the depressing side. There were many topics on death such as; suicide, euthanasia, capital punishment, and other death related topics,
My presentation was on Freud's Theories of Psychology. I thought that my presentations went quite well, I didn't forget anything that I was suppose to talk about and I felt as if I keep my classmates interested. The only thing different about my presentation from most of the other ones was that I didn't have a video explaining my topic. I looked at possible videos but all of the videos were boring or unrelated to my topic and thesis. My thesis was that Freud's Theories of Psychology explain all human relationships whether they are aware of this or not.
I found the presentations on suicide to be very interesting although depressing, because I have found that most of the time suicide is a topic that people tend to ignore because they don't want to talk about it. Another topic that I was interested by was the animals for therapy because although I knew it existed I wasn't really informed on any of it's benefits.

Presentation Thoughts -Ryan Makinen week 9

So far the presentations have been really good. Megan Rasdale's presentation on Cyber bullying was really interesting and a lot of the percentages of people who have killed themselves because of cyber bullying was shocking. I didn't know that if you bully someone online and they end up killing themselves, then you can go to prison. I mean it's still suicide so it's not like they were forced to kill themselves; but if bullying them online lead to their suicide, then I guess they should be at fault for some of it. The Prezi presentations were also pretty interesting. Prezi seems pretty cool, but all of the moving around from one topic to the next kinda makes me dizzy. Using animals for therapy is also something that I never knew about. It's really cool how it relates to Of Mice and Men because of how Lennie would feel happier when George would talk about the rabbits. Using animals as a reason to get out of bed and go through your therapy exercises is really inspiring. I agree with what I heard from these presentations because of all of the evidence that they had to support their thesis's. My favorite presentation so far is Megan's because of all the statistics that she displayed and because of how interesting those statistics are.
