Why I chose STiLL ALiCE -Ryan Makinen Week 7

My novel of choice is STiLL ALiCE. I selected this novel because the main character Alice gets diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She is a Harvard professor, and so this novel relates to Flowers for Algernon because after the surgery Charlie became a genius like Alice and then after some time, he regressed back to himself. Alice was a very intelligent Harvard professor who was very successful, and then her brain functioning slowly started to digress. This novel also relates to Of Mice and Men because Lennie had a very hard time remembering things, and he was dependent on George. After Alice was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, she became very dependent on her husband John. The main connection that Alice has with John is that they are both professors at the University of Harvard. I actually already read this book, and I thought that it was really good. Alice had a lot of disagreements between her and her daughter, and in the end of the novel her daughter Lydia stayed by her side and helped her through things even though at that point Alice didn't know who she was. John also ended up staying with Alice which I am glad he did because I was building suspicion that he might leave her because he wanted to move on with his life.
