the perks of being a wallflower week 8

The perks of being a wallflower is one of the best books I've ever read. It's so real and I like how can relate to it in some ways. Charlie has a very wise mind for being so young. In almost a year, the novel takes you through letters that he writes to an anonymous person. Charlie is a "wallflower" he's more of a people watcher than interacting with them. He will go to parties and just kind of watch people to see what they do. He goes through a lot in a year though. He trips on LSD, and eats a weed brownie without even knowing it. He deals with his sister getting beat by her boyfriend, then having to get an abortion. His brother is a hot shot college football player at Penn State. His aunt died one night because she went to go buy his birthday present and got in a car accident and died. Ever since he can't help but thinking it's his fault and becomes depressed around the time of his birthday. Charlie discovers drinking and cigarettes. He has two best friends, Patrick and Sam. He falls in love with Sam and finds out Patrick is gay. He has his first girlfriend but realizes he doesn't really like her because of how conceited she is. All around this book is just great, I would recommend it to anyone! But if your reading this, you just found out half the book...oops! There is a lot more to it and it obviously goes more in depth, so you should read this book! And if you do, i hope you really enjoy it[:

Week 4 post. Keifer D

If i had to choose between the two books, i would have to choose Of Mice and Men over Flowers for Algernon. It was much more of a better book to read and easier to understand. I liked the story or plot of Of Mice and Men better. I also liked the characters more than i did the characters in Flowers. Lennie and George were much more interesting to read about and i found it exciting the way Lennie caused problems in the book. I did not find Flowers for Algernon very exciting or interesting. But both the books did deal with disabilities and how people deal with those in life. So in that aspect i did like the themes of both books.

Week 8: Speak

In the novel I am reading Speak we are now just getting to know why Melinda; the main character called the cops at the summer party. Also in the book Melinda refers to one of her classmates as "IT", and we get to know how that is. In the book Melinda was raped at the party, which was why she called the cops and told no one. The upperclassmen boy who raped her is the person known as "IT". The boys' name is Andy and he is now dating Melinda's former best friend Rachel. As of now no one in the school believes Melinda because Andy is obviously denying it. I can't say I didn't she it coming because their were many hints throughout the whole book about possible reasons for calling the cops. Also I have seen a movie based on this book. My predictions for this book if it's anything like the movie is that Andy will try and rape her again. While this happens he will get caught and then everyone will believe Melinda. She will gain her old friends back, but there will be tension between all of the friends. I am still enjoying the book and am interested to see if my predictions will happen.

The Host Part 2

After reading The Host more I learned that Jared (Melanie's boyfriend) still thinks that Wanda could be a liar, but is beginning to trust her and is hoping that Melanie is still alive inside. Melanie gets jealous when Jared kisses Wanda hoping that some part of Melanie's soul would shine through, but since she wasn't aware of his plan she used what effort she could to take control of her arm and hit him in the face. Ian who has always had a soft side for Wanda finally tells her that he likes her. Jamie (Melanie's brother) gets real sick and Ian, Jared, and Wanda leave the hideout to go find this medicine that is suppose to work wonders on the ill, but in order to get it they have to go to the one place that is crawling with spirited people (aliens). Luckly they find the medicine with no problem and cure Jamie before he died. After sometime Wanda grows to really like Ian and wants to give Jared his love back, but in order to do that she has to leave Melanie's body. So Jared and Wanda sneak out again to go find a cryotank for Wanda. (The tank is what keeps the spirits from dying)

week 8 conor cut

I finished the book cut like two days after I got it. It was a good book.  Best part was it was only 150 pages long.  Last week I talked about the comparison between cut and the catcher in the rye.  Which is the only book out of the three that it compares to? In mice of men and Charlie it had the things about being handicapped or having a problem so I guess it can be somewhat compared to cut.  In cut callie goes away to an in-patient treatment place, which they call sick minds and callie is surrounded by people with different problems. Such as eating problems, weight problems, substance abuse, and what Callie has, cutting.  In Charlie after he starts to get smarter I guess the re4ason he lashes out is because he feels like he isn’t in control of his life. That’s kind of what callie does when she first lives at sick minds.  Callie doesn’t talk for the first couple months she is there because; I guess it is to feel like she has more control over herself and feel like she is in more control. Callie doesn’t start talking in group till like almost to the end of the book.

Week 8 post for Big Rayn

The book I'm reading, Hole In My Life, has really slowed down and the excitement level and interest level has gone down a lot. The main character Jack still seems just like Holden, but to a more extreme level. He's very anti social, but is starting to make me more friends. Jack is becoming a lot more like Charlie as his life begins to spiral in the wrong direction. He is doing drugs now for the first time and continuing his drinking habits. He is still away from his family, who are now trying to start their own construction business in the Virgin Islands.

Also Jack found a turtle in his buddies pool after a tropical storm and immediately named him Ernest. I don't know why he chose that name. Guess, just the first thing that came to his mind.

Also the book foreshadows that the reason Jack ended up in prison was, because of marijuana.

heard or not post 3 chuckie ford

charlie in not heard in the book at the beginning because he is mentally challenged. before the surgery he was used and people didnt respect him. the doctor was heard in the book because he was the one giving the surgery. the teacher was also heard because she was teacher. race was not really a problem in the store but a problem was, was how a person was treated because he was not the same as everyone else. yes male and female are both portrayed in the story. charlie mother is hitting him as a child. his father does not help him when she is. charlie is a victim because his mother is very mean to him. his father didnt care what happened. class is very important because people needed to act like real humans, talk right, smell right, have manners and be respectful.
