My View of Handicapped People
The author influences my point of view of handicap like it is a bad thing to be. This book makes you stop and think of things that in life you usually wouldn’t think about. Somethings that the author makes you think about is all the time handicap people just want to be normal, like how Charlie would give anything to be smart. Like when he went through the operation because he wanted to be smart. Also the novel made me stop and think of all the struggles that mentally challenge people go through, like how Charlie thought people were his friends but really they were making fun of him and his disability. Also it makes you stop and think that they would do anything to be normal. Also it shows how they don’t get to do nearly as much, that normal people get to do. Like Charlie got to experience a relationships with Fay and Alice. Also this book makes me stop and think if there was a cure for this many mentally disabled people would do the operation because they see how everyone portrays them and what normal people look like. These are some of my views I got from this book.

Do you really feel like the author is trying to make us feel like it's a bad thing to be handicapped? I think that the author is just trying to show us the difficulties that they face in their day-to-day lives, and he wanted people to understand what mentally disabled people would do to be more normal. Also, you have to understand that this book was written in a time period where it was more common to see someone bullying someone with a mental disability; so if you were to read the book back then, you would most likely have a much different view on the book than you do now. My last question for you is do you think that Charlie didn't get to experience what a relationship was like until after the surgery? Because Alice really showed her affection for him before the surgery, and I feel like their relationship was probably at its best during Charlie's regression.
