This week, utilize the "Critical" role to explore issues in the second novel. Explore ideas of:
VOICE (who is heard in the novel and who isn't?)
POWER (who has it? Whop doesn't? who wants it? how does power, or lack thereof, affect characters?)
RACE (is race an issue in the novel? the absence of race can be a major issue. how is race addressed?)
GENDER (how are males and females portrayed? are they victims or perpetrators?)
CLASS (is class important in the novel? what does the author say about class divisions?)
Be specific in your writing. Choose one issue and explore it in depth. Use specific details from the reading to support your thoughts.

ReplyDeleteIn Of Mice an Men the classes aren’t really associated with normal population. In the book it’s not like the rich, the middle class and the poor. It’s the owner of the farm then all the farm hands after him. The seniority matters here also Curly thinks hes big man on the farm when really he isn’t hes just a little guy that wants to feel important. It’s a thing called little man syndrome, it’s a real thing. When lenny broke curlys hand I was so happy because curlys an idoit that makes fun of him and is a jerk to everyone he deserved it. That just shows that Curly really isn’t as tough as he thinks he is. Personally I hope lenny beats up everyone that teases him, I even hope George gets beaten because hes always yelling at lenny about little thing he treats him like a dog, especially about the little animals curly encounters yeah he has killed a few things but hes special you cant scold him for that stuff.
POWER
ReplyDeletepower was displayed in of mice of men in a lot of ways. The way George treated Lennie showed how George's attitude leads to him basically controlling Lennie. He could tell Lennie to do anything he said and Lennie would do it. In the book and the movie George even stated that he had such power of him. Although Lennie is in the best shape mentally, he still has very dominant physical characteristics. As Curley tried to take his own anger out on Lennie, Lennie basically took it just because George said not to make any trouble. Even as he was getting beat up George told him to fight back and Lennie sure did. This poses the question, who has the power? Power means to have the ability to influence the behavior of others or the events that follow. George clearly shows to have such ability over Lennie. We as people begin to forget the true nature of power. No one in our generation takes a look at who dictates our every move. But in reality until you are 18 the parents have the ability to influence the behavior of you.
