My book is cool

I am reading the novel Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. So far in my book ender the main character has continued to be pushed to his limits as a soldier and as a human being. His teachers and students are constantly testing how far he can go before he is at his breaking point. Ender is in exile non the less. Similar to Holden Caufield in the novel The catcher in the rye. Ender has been elected a commander of an army at the young age of only nine years old. The teachers and the colonel did not expect Ender to succeed so highly and have such high standings but too everyone's surprise Ender is at the top of every standing and has a perfect battle record. Ender is being put into every possible uncomfortable situation as possible in order to bring out the creative genius inside of him. His teachers believe someday he will be the greatest commander in the history of the International Fleet. The teachers at the school have done some very inordinate things to Ender and his army to make them suffer but they do not fall. They have given them a battle every day for seven days straight which usually only happens once a week. On top of this ridiculous battle schedule his army has only been together for four weeks. No matter these circumstances Ender wins. And that is exactly what the teachers want to see from him, ruthless victory. Although Ender is winning he is losing all of his so called friends and is on his way to being completely lonely. Ender eventually meets the commander before him to save the world and Ender has to do this task himself.

Week 8.The body

The novel "The Body" was a good book but i enjoyed the movie "Stand by me" better maybe its just cause of my attention span for reading. This class should be called advanced reading instead of senior english, i had no idea there would be this much reading but i guess i prefer it over lessons and random activites. I wish we played more games. So in my book i would say that Gordie is the main character and relates mostly back to holden. His brother died and his parents almost shun him. Its kindof sad but i guess its just fiction. Holy only 100 words to this point. Are we reading farinheight 451 next? i heard it is a good book. I feel like everything in our class are related. We are reading all of the classic novels in one class. Mrs. Marble, these blog posts are getting really annoying. I think im caught up on blogs but im honestly not sure i hope i am i hope that if i missed one i can redo it or drop it. Well i beilve in class we should watch the movie "stand by me" because it is a classic/ great movie. It kind of relates and because second hour got to watch limitless we should be able to watch a good movie that still relates back.

Week 8 Blog Post- Jared H

Hello fellow classmates, I hope you had a splendid weekend! The free choice novel I chose was Open, by Andre Agassi. It was an exciting book to read and it was tough for me to put down. The autobiography of Andre Agassi's life was very interesting and his life relates to Holden in more ways the one.
Andre's life was planned out from the second his father found out his mother was pregnant. His father, an Olympic boxer in Iran, decided that he was going to be the best tennis player in the world. His father was stripped of his gold medal at the Olympics and then was forced to flea the country and immigrate to the United States. Mike Agassi, Andre's father, ruined the lives of Andre's sister Rita, and his older brother, Philly. Determined not to make the same mistake of failing to create professional tennis prodigies out of his first two children, Mike went about a different training method with Andre.

The day Andre turned ten, he was shipped off to a boarding school in Florida, called the Bradenton Tennis Academy. He would spend four hours in the morning attending school before heading home for a sloppy lunch and then heading to the courts until the ball could no longer be seen.

Andre and Holden are both shipped off to boarding schools because there parents believe it is in there best interest. Neither Andre nor Holden really has any friends or family they can relate to. The only family member Holden can relate to is Phoebe. Andre has a best friend name Perry, and he is very close with his brother Philly. Neither of the two is close at all with their fathers.

Week 8, Tyler P

What up class. The novel I chose was Heaven is For Real and the story is exciting. My book talks about a man named Todd Burpo (the author) and his struggle for belief as his son goes through a life-ending surgery with his bursted appendix. The way the story is made interesting is by the suspense that plays out the plot. His son is a loving young boy with a huge heart and full of life. As he begins to get worse his attitude changes to a boy who seems lifeless in the process. Todd Burpo stood by his sons side in hope that something would go well. Nothing went well and all got worse. Once Todd and Sonja took their son to emergency care they were told the surgery must begin quickly. As Todd received the news he started to question his belief in god. Todd had all the answers until such events occurred and at that point had no clue how to handle them. All he could do is pray. Pray for his son and pray that god was still there watching over him. I compared my story to Of Mice and Men because of George and Lennie's same attitude towards their goals in life. They worked hard and truly believed that they would one day live on their own plantation away from the rest of society. Todd's belief was strong to go with his big heart for others. The difference between the two was that Todd's beliefs were weak when times were rough as George and Lennie's stayed true throughout the novel. Belief in yourself is the key to happiness. Colton got out of surgery only to tell his story about heaven and how he spoke with his miscarriage sister. This brought back the belief in his parents and they lived on day by day knowing that god was there the whole time.

Week 8, I am Legend

What up everyone, I just finished my book, I am Legend by Richard Matherson. I would first like to say that it was a very good book overall, and very short. I defiantly was mad at the way it ended because it wasn't at all like the movie and it ended completely depressing. The only thing about this book that was similar to the movie was the he was one of the last ones left and zombies are trying to kill him. Except the book depicts the zombies as vampires, and the vampire act a little different than what was portrayed in the book. You could almost call the movie a different name because it does not resemble the book at all, just the idea is basically the same. I would still recommend this book as it is very well written and a quick read. To see Neville evolve slowly, and see how he becomes who he is by the end of the book is quite interesting, and the flashbacks really help with the story. The flashbacks are there to help the reader understand who Robert Neville is, and how his life was before and during the eruption of the vampire disease. In the end, though, I didn't like how it ended because I felt like there was more I needed to read, and the story could have kept going. I still like it though, and it was fun to see how the book and the movie compared.

Jake Whitney Week 8

My book is called Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection. It is by John T. Cacioppo and William Patrick with some random illustrations. As I have continued to read this book, I have learned that everyone is lonely by some measure. The problem occurs when you are lonely for extended periods. The pain that you experience during these times is acutally a biological function eveloved over time to combat this loneliness because humans, as primal creatures need social interaction. The authors also describe loneliness as a perpetual cycle where once you are in that cycle it is hard to break out of because loneliness by its very nature is the absence of connections but you need those connections to break the cycle. The book also talks about Phineas Gage for anyone who has taken psychology here. The book offers hope for anyone who is lonely because loneliness is not wanted or accustomed in human nature so it is overcomable. There is really nothing to connect to Of Mice and Men, Flowers for Algernon, or Catcher in the Rye yet but I hope there is something to connect too soon.

Jake Whitney Week 7

My book is called Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection. It is by John T. Cacioppo and William Patrick with some random illustrations. It is approximately 200 pages long. I was drawn to this book because I though it looked interesting and offered insight in to why people need connections. I hope it will answer questions about why Holden did what he did. This book is not similar to any of the other books we have read because this is basicly a psychology textbook about society and loneliness although you do not need a psychology background to understand the authors . Being as this book is non fiction, it has no characters, plot or themes. I was attracted to this book because I am interested in psycology and this book is not about the boring books we read in class. From the limited pages I have read, I would recomend this book to anyone interested in science and psycology or those who just really hate fiction like me. I do not see how this book will relate to Of Mice and Men but I think it will relate to Catcher in the Rye and Flowers for Algernon.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

The book that I am currently reading for my choice novel is called The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. This book is about an autistic boy, Christopher, who heard of a murder in his neighborhood. His neighbor, Mrs. Shears' dog, Wellington, was murdered in her front yard. When Christopher hears of this murder, he is instantly so interested and wants more than anything to figure out who murdered Wellington. Christopher's father is mysteriously angry when he finds out that Christopher is going from house to house asking questions in attempts to solve the mystery.

As I am reading this book, I find many connections to the other three books we have read. For example, Christopher must lie to keep his father from finding out that he is still trying to solve the mystery, and this is very similar to Holden from The Catcher in the Rye because he also continuously lied. The reason Holden and Christopher are different, though is because Holden lies just because he likes to and for his own enjoyment, but Christopher must lie in order to keep himself from getting in trouble.

week 8 post

In my book Perks of Being a Wallflower a lot of interesting things have happened to the main character Charlie. Growing up in high school isnt easy, especially as a freshman. Charlie becomes really good friends with two seniors, Sam and Patrick. Charlie is in love with Sam and even though Sam tells Charlie she loves him, she can't really be with him and its more of a friendship love. Patrick is gay, but he has a girlfriend as a coverup. Sam and Patrick expose Charlie to sex and drugs. They take him to a party where he gets high. They also lead him to his everyday smoking habits. They might be bad influences on them, but Charlie doesn't know any better. Charlie's sister gets pregnant and her boyfriend leaves her to deal with it. So Charlie takes her sister to the clinic to get an abortion. They end up getting really close with one another. Charlie seems to be really lost in the world. He does LSD one day because he is so depressed and he smokes everyday. At his young age he has already made so many bad decisions but he doesn't have anyone to tell him to stop. His sister steps in though and tells him to stop smoking.

I really enjoy this book so far, and I haven't wanted to stop reading it. Charlie is a very interesting character with a lot of life problems. He is slowly learning right from wrong. I can really relate to this book as any other high school could. We have to deal with the peer pressure everyday and it can be really hard. Some of us even deal with the serious relationship problems. High school should be fun, and we shouldn't have to worry about the hardships. This book has really taught me a lot about how different people's lives can be after one major catastrophe.

Slam Week 8

So far in this book, things are getting very interesting. Slam is playing more and more games and they continue to win them. Slam also is having a better relationship with his teammates. Slam still does not start but he should be there soon. Slam is still facing a few problems though. He grandmother is still in the hospital and is very sick. Slam continues to visit with her and he tries to spend as much times as he possibly can with her. Also, his brother derek is trying to spend as much time with his grandmother that he can. Another problem that Slam is going through is the conflict with Mtisha. She found out the he had kissed another girl and that angered her big time. They are currently trying to work things out again to make things better between the two of them. Another problem that Slam is going through is that his grades are still suffering a little bit. He tries to get a tutor but his father doesn't like the idea for some weird reason. If Slam doesn't get things going again in school than he won't be able to play basketball which is one of the only things that he has and that he loves. A final problem that he is facing right now is that he is starting to believe that his best friend Ice is starting to deal. Slam does not like when he hears this at all and is in denial of it but he now thinks it may be true. Slam does not want Ice to do this because of how bright his future could be with basketball. This dealing could possibly ruin things for Ice and Slam has to do something about it so he doesn't have to see his best friend suffer or maybe even killed.

week 8

Monster is about a boy who go and robs a store with his friends he was the lookout but he when his friends were robbing it one of them killed the store clerk and they got arrested and got put in jail and now he is on trial for murder and armed robbery. The lawyer against him wants them to have the death penalty. He is afraid of the trail and also the jail. He is afraid that he is going to get hurt also he is afraid he is going to change him when he gets out of there. He does not like how there isn’t much privacy in there with the toilets also he cries during the night when it is covered up by all the yelling at night so that way he will not look weak in front of everyone else so that way he will not get beaten up for being weak. His friend and him hang close in there so they will not get in trouble so they can watch each other’s back. He also has a flash back of when he was younger throwing rocks while he is on trial for murder and robbery.

week 7

my book monster is about a kid who was going to rob a place but then ends up being involved in a murder. my book is similar to the other books we read like in mice and men how lenny got george and himself in trouble a lot of trouble. And in this book monster he and his friends go to rob a place and one of his friends murdered someone during it witch ends up getting him in trouble. Also like in flowers for Algernon after Charlie gets the operation Charlie soon regrets getting it done because he doesn’t feel its worth it. Like in my book after he robs the place he is afraid that jail is going to change him. And then like in Charlie how he is a social outcast he think is going to make him one too after jail. The he goes to a trial for murder and he and his friend are accused of murder and are debating on whether or not to be put to death. Also he doesn’t like how jail is how there is no privacy and there is always someone being beat up it there this scares him a lot

Week 8 Post: Courtney Hanneman

In the novel im reading called "Thirteen Reasons Why" this girl sends out 7 cassette tapes to people that she thought were the cause of the suicide. The people on the tapes have to listen to all the tapes and reasons why she killed herself and then ship it off to the person that came after them on the cassette tapes. this one person in the novel would sit outside Hannah, the girl who killed herself, house and takes pictures of her. Creepy right? who does that? anyways this book is really good it intrigues me and i like dont want to put it down:) i would reccommened this novel to anyone. in this novel the main character, Clay, gets put on the tapes when he dosent really need to even be on them and Hannah said so herself.at the begining of this book while i was reading it i was asking myslef why Hannah would kill herself over such little things some of these people did, but then she used this analogy saying its a snowball effect where everything gets made into a snowball and it gets bigger and bigger. im guessing thats what pushed her over the edge. like i said this novel is really good so you should read it:)

The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night Time 2

I am reflecting on my choice novel, watch is The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night Time. Over all I did enjoy it, but its ending is a little sad at the ending was a little sad and kind of bad ending for suck a good book. This is the first book in a long time since I have actually read a book from cover to cover and liked it. Over all I was disappointed in the ending was bad. The story was very well thought out and I liked how the writer puts in a couple twists. Although the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time only had a few things in common with Holden by him running away and having a mental disability watch is very popular thing in our books we have read. Over all I would recommend this book to any one that would like a very easy read I would tell them to read this book. It is not that bad of a read. I have to say my favorite part was in the middle of book because it was very twisty and it also I very much like the main person.

hunger games

Well I have finished my book of choice... soo here is a summary.

Katniss Everdeen is a 17 year old girl, she lives with her mom and younger sister Prim. She is the main provider for her family and has to make it so they survive. But every year in May I think there is this thing called reaping, and one boy and one girl from each district has to go to the Hunger Games and fight the other districts and the last one standing is the winner. Sp Prim gets caleld as the girl from District 12, and Katniss would not let her go so Katniss volunteers in her place to save her and promise that she will come back alive. The boy is Peeta, and Katniss and Peeta soon develop a fake relationship. Their strategy is to play starcrossed lovers. Which they do. The crowd eats it up and during the actual games they fight to keep each other alive, and in the end the rules where changed so that two from the same district can win, so they reunite after being split and work to survive.
It was a really good book and I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone:p

The Curious Incident

My book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night Time is about a kid with autism. His name is Chrisputer and he goes for walks every night at like 2 am. One morning when Chrisputer was walking, he found a dead dog in his neighbors yard, Mrs. Shear. Chrisputer is trying to solve the case of who killed the dog. He has many clues like how he found a pitch fork that was stuck in the dog in Mrs. Shear's shed. Also when Mrs. Shear see Chrisputer looking at the dead dog she calls the police. When the police come, they take Chrisputer to jail. Then his dad has to bail him out. So then Chrisputer goes back to solving the case. Chrisputer finds another clue that leads him to Mr. Shear and how he had an affair with his own mother. When Chrisputer gets caught numerous times in Mrs. Shears yard his dad tells him to stop the case. Then one day Chrisputer brings home a book about Sherlock Holmes and his dad get angry with him and grabs Chrisputers hand. Chrisputer then goes insane and starts hiting his dad, till he bleeds. That's how far I have gotten in my novel.

Connelly Week 8 post

The book I am reading with my group is called Monster. So far my book has been alright but not too much action or stuff has been occurring. Right now, 16 year old, Steve is on trial still for his blame of committing a murder with the man named King. Steve is put in jail and as of this time of the book he is writing a journal so that hopefully someone can read it and find out how innocent he is and how terrible his life is going with him being in jail and constantly in the court room. Steve’s attourney told him he was lucky with time in jail for the punishment he is being accused of. Steve realizes that he will probably never be free because of this tragic incident. I think that throughout the rest of the book we will see how hard life is for a teenager in jail and how his life will come crashing down even though he had nothing to do with the murder as he explained earlier in the book. I think Steve will remain in jail for a long time and his life before how he knew it, his friends, his family, and the others around him will just forget about him and he will be like a ghost to them. If he ever gets let out I think he will be on probation and always be watched over by the police. As of right now the life of a young, innocent kid was ruined and will never get rebuilt or fixed.

Week 8 Post. RW

The book my group is reading, and that we are almost finished with is called The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. At this point in the novel, the main character Christopher has run away from his father due to the fact that he is sick of this dad lying to him and treating him like a little kid. Sure, Christopher is mentally challenged and has problems understanding things the same way that normal people do. But, I don’t think that this gives his father the right to treat him the way he does. He has lied to him about multiple things like his mother, and the dog. Christopher decides the best thing for him to do is to run away to find his mother. When he finds her, he realizes that it’s not as great as he expected it to be. His mother is currently living with the same person that she cheated on his dad with. She realizes that it is not safe for her and Christopher to live there anymore and she moves them back into his dad’s house. Christopher’s dad buys him a dog to make up for the incident that happened earlier in the novel with the dog. Honestly, out of all the books we have read so far this term, I think I like this one the best. It has the best plot and keeps me interested more than the other ones did. I am looking forward to the ending.

Pulling the Trigger

I'm reading Trigger, a book about a seventeen year old named Jersey who is a 4.0 GPA student, a star football and golf player, and a ROTC recruit. He has a loving family and good friends. He had everything going for him, until one day he decided to kill himself with his own father's handgun for whatever reason. Only, something went wrong in his attempt, he lives while blowing out a sizable chuck of his brain. Now, after seven months in hospital, mental, and physical therapy, he is to come home and try to pick up where he left off. He has trouble walking and remembering things that happened within a year of when he shot himself, as if he blew it all out with that one bullet. Now he was to figure out why he did it in the first place, why his mother will barely talk to him, and why his used to be best friend, Todd, hates him. The only two people who really try to help him is Todd's sister and his grandma for whatever reason they have. With the odds against him and a half working brain, Jersey has to work through social and emotional pressures to get the answers he's looking for.

the curious insident of the dog at night time.

Today we finished the novel The curious incident of the dog at night time, christopher’s mother is fired from her job for taking leave. Christopher demands to be taken to Swindon to take his A-level test. The next morning, Mother and Christopher leave for Swindon, she explains that if they stayed in London any longer someone would get hurt. Gayscone still has his A-level test sealed on her desk, and that they are going to try to get Reverend Peters to come over so Christopher can take his test after all. but before the end of the novel Christopher chronicles his investigation in a book—the book we are reading—as part of a school assignment. As Christopher conducts interviews with residents on his block about the crime he uncovers a more tangled plot than was first apparent when he discovers that his father and the owner of the slain dog, Mrs. Shears, had a romantic affair. He subsequently learns that their affair began in reaction to another relationship, one carried on between Mr. Shears and Christopher’s mother, before she disappeared from Christopher’s life. At school Christopher prepares for an A-level math exam that will enable him to attend a university. One afternoon Christopher accidentally leaves his book in plain view on the kitchen table. His father reads it, becomes angry, and confiscates it. While searching for his book he finds a series of letters, hidden in a shirt box in his father’s closet, addressed to him from his supposedly dead mother. The letters chronicle a life that his mother has continued to lead with Mr. Shears in London and contain repeated requests for Christopher to respond. When Christopher’s father realizes what has happened, he breaks down in tears. He apologizes for his lies, explaining that he acted out of a desire to protect Christopher from the knowledge of his mother’s abandonment of the family. Christopher’s father also admits to killing Wellington after an argument with Mrs. Shears, his lover. Christopher feeling he can no longer trust his father, sneaks out of the house and travels to London to live with his mother.

The House of Scorpions by Damien

In the novel I have chosen The House of Scorpion we follow the story of Matt Alacran. At this point in the story he is a little older than 7 and is beginning to realize what it means to be a clone of El Patron. While people will always look down on him for being a clone, they can never treat him as they did before because El Patron has forbade it. El Patron is the leader of the family and since Matt is his clone El Patron treats him better than the rest of his family. However El Patron is no fool he knows of his families’ hatred towards Matt and has given him a bodyguard. Matt however begins to learn of how El Patrons’ family talks bad about him behind his back. Matt initially thought everyone must love El Patron but as he talks to his bodyguard and watches the behavior of the other family members he notices a lot of resentment towards El Patron. We also get a look into the behavior of a boy called Tom. From outward appearances he would seem to be like a polite individual. However he does certain things out of earshot of elders that would suggest otherwise. He by far treats Matt worse than anybody in the family. At one point in the book Tom just sits there shooting Matt with a peashooter as Matt is trapped in a cage.

Week 8, AN

My group is almost finished with the book. Overall I’m glad I picked this book to read. It provides a surreal depiction of how people act towards mentally disabled people. When someone goes through a traumatic experience like Jersey and comes out disabled there are many ways people can react. Simply, some people will treat him nice while some may treat him bad. This was the case with Jersey’s old friends before he tried to kill himself. They were really mean to him because Jersey was better than them at everything before the injury and now he is barely able to walk right so they take advantage of him. On the other hand, on of Jersey’s friend’s sisters is going out of her way to help Jersey and make sure no one messes with him. I find this kind of courage something we need more of in this world.

There is also a connection between Jersey and Charlie from ‘Flowers for Algernon.’ Charlie’s old self was still with the smart Charlie even after the surgery. In ‘Trigger’ Jersey also has the same type of thing happen. Whenever Jersey is in his room his old self before the injury starts ‘talking’ to him. This is almost a direct connection to Charlie.

Speak AGAIN

Since the blog last week, my group has pretty much finished the book. There are still a few things we need to find out about Melinda, before the book ends. At first, we were getting teased when Melinda would not tell us what really happened to her the night of the party, even though everything she was saying, she was hinting at that she was raped. But still, she never actually said it. This past reading, we finally found out that the night of the party, Mel got really drunk, and got taken out in the woods and raped by this boy from her school named Andy, aka "IT."
Before Melinda ever worked up the guts to say anything, she had to hold in all of this depression brought on by this traumatizing night. The only outlet that Mel has had until this point, is her artwork, in Mr. Freeman's class. Mr. Freeman can tell that Melinda is hurt, depressed, and scared by the patterns of expression she puts into her artwork.
Melinda is sort of losing her newest and only friend, Heather, to a social group, called the Marthas. But, recently Mel has been into this extremely smart boy who is in a few of her classes, her biology lab partner, David Petrakis. They are kind of dating now, it's not official, but they are pretty much dating.
I hope that Melinda's parents come around, and start acting like a healthy married couple, for the sake of Melinda. Whether they realize it or not, they are hurting Melinda by their actions toward each other. If they do not start getting along like a married couple, I think it would be better if they just separated and got a divorce.

Week 8 chrisp

I just finished my novel last night. Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I really enjoyed this book. Also I thought that this book flowed quickly and it had a good plot. I think now that I have finished the book I would like to see the movie so that I could put some faces to the characters. I wonder how much they change in the movie from the book. The main plot of this book is about these two groups that live on this desert island. The first group that lives on the island is the group that is good. For example they treat very one the same. Also they have a organized way of running the group. This group run by Ralph. The second group is lead by a evil boy named jack how takes pleasure in hurting other and making the do all the hard work while he reps all the benefits. Also the book moves on you can see how uncivilized jacks group gets longer they stay on the island. Unlike jack group how keep cool and collective throw out the book. The main connection that I got from the book is how is society their is away going to be good honest people and evil conniving people. The honest people are going to treat you fairly and not cheat you on the price. Unlike the conniving people how try to cheat you out of all your money.

Week 8

Since, the last blog our group has pretty much finished the book. In the last blog I'd said that Chris, the main character, was trying to solve the mystery of who killed his neighbor’s dog. Well, he'd figured out that his dad had done it because, of a recent affair between his wife and neighbor. While growing up Chris had thought his mom had died of a heart attack but, really she'd left with their neighbor. His dad kept this secret from him the whole time and not once did he seem guilty for lying to his son. Since, his dad had been keeping this secret from him he’d failed to learn that his mother had been trying to contact him this whole time. She'd been writing him; she had written him forty-two letters since her disappearance. Chris then decides to leave and go find her; he ends up traveling to London. While, on his way to London he overcomes his social problems, tries avoiding the police, and almost gets hit by a train. We have yet to find out if he finds his mom yet but, I hope he does find her and ends up living with her instead.

Einstein's Dreams Part 2

Einstein’s Dreams consists of a menagerie of dream records relating to time and their effects on society. While there are brief interludes between chains of dreams, told from the perspective of Michele Besso (Einstein’s best friend), I have noticed recurring themes between the dreams and the intermissions. Isolation seems to be the most common theme within Einstein’s dreams and his reality.

From the interludes, Besso explains that Einstein is introverted and solitary. He wonders why Einstein married, since he spends all of his time working on theories. Einstein is observed as preferring reclusive contemplation to social interaction. His behavior resembles Holden Caulfield’s tendencies in that he seems uninterested in what others consider appealing social events. For example, Einstein refuses to attend a party with his wife and friends, while Holden does not participate in the football game. Einstein’s friend, Besso, also seems to recognize his reclusiveness and rarely attempts to persuade him out of isolation (much like how Holden surrounds himself with friends who are socially confined, such as Ackley, or are more interested in other occurrences, such as Stradlater).

In addition to Einstein’s reality, his dreams explore the connection between society or individuals, and time. For example, in one dream time is described as being sticky. People are stuck in the ways of the past and do not progress. A woman writes to her son through a defunct address, when in fact her son has grown and begs for her attention. She ignores him, however, because he does not comply with her vision of him as a child. This relates to Holden, who focuses on the innocence of his past and refuses to acknowledge his future (maturing), and Professor Nemur, who refrains from recognizing Charlie as a human before his operation (since it contradicts his perspective of society).

$P3@K

The novel that I chose to read was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Towards the beginning of the book, we learn that Melinda, the main character, lost all of her friends and is very lonely now. At first we really never learned why exactly that was, but then we come to find out she called the cops on a party that she went to during summer. During the book, she refers to “IT” a lot, and we later learned who “it” was. Andy Evans. He raped her that summer at a party and that’s why she called the cops. No one believes Melinda because Andy denies it, so everyone turned against her because she got a lot of people in trouble by calling the cops. My predictions for the rest of the book are that Melinda is pregnant from him and that Andy will try to take advantage of her again. I think that in time, she will make friends and people will start to accept her again and I hope that she gets her grades up and gets professional help to deal with her problems. So far, I find this book to be really interesting and it always makes me think about what’s going to happen next. It’s an easy read for me and I can’t wait to keep reading!

Week 8 Inside Out

The book I am currently reading is called Inside Out, by Terry Trueman. It is about a kid that struggles to cope with his mental illness. In the beginning of the novel he gets caught up in a burglary at a coffee shop. The main character Zach has a difficult time understanding what is going on around him. Instead of being nervous and scared, he has no feeling and is completely calm while the coffee shop he is in is being robbed. The other people that are in the coffee shop become afraid of the robbers, while Zach interacts and tries to carry on a conversation with these highly dangerous men. He is also focused on a maple bar throughout the whole novel when he should be worried about his own safety. This is similar to Lennie's situation in the novel Of Mice and Men. Lennie is focused on caring for rabbits throughout the entire book when he has many other things to worry about. Zach also reminds me of Charlie in the novel Flowers for Algernon. Zach has a hard time understanding other people's emotions much like Charlie did. These are just some examples of how Zach is similar to the characters of past novels.

Week 8 post- The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night-Time

So far in novel since last weeks post we learn that Christopher chronicles his investigation in a book—the book we are reading—as part of a school assignment. During a harrowing journey, he copes with and overcomes the social fears and limitations of his condition, dodges police, and almost gets hit by a train. I think he will find his mother next but I am not sure what her reaction will be seeing how she hasn’t seen him in years.

Pieces of the Heart

The book Pieces of the Heart is somewhat of a love story because it has the main character, Caroline, falling in love with her neighbor, Drew, but he was married to her childhood friend, Shelby; she died. Also Caroline’s brother, Jude, died from a car accident and she was in the car with him. She had to get a heart transplant and now she has to stay with her mom because Caroline’s job is really over-bearing and it gives her a lot of stress. Drew had a daughter with Shelby; her name is Jewel. Caroline has been giving her swimming lessons so she can get on the school swimming team. Caroline used to be an amazing swimmer, but since the car accident, she has not been swimming. She might be scared to because she does not want to remember the past from it being a great time in her, but once her brother died, everything about her changed. She kind of thinks Jude was killed by her because he was never supposed to drive and she blames herself too much and covers a lot up about who she used to be. Caroline’s mom is also mad at her for his death and Caroline thinks her mom wished she was the one who should have died and not her brother.

the maze runner

so my book is about these teenagers that are put in a maze called the glades with there memories whipped. it begins with the main character coming out of the box that they get new people out of every month and supply ever month. so he goes threw the proses of becoming a glader and becomes a runner a person that goes into the maze and try's to figure out how the maze works. but as the first girl comes to the glades the whole maze changes. the sun goes away and the maze stops changing. so the books climax and end was the main character getting stung by a griever which is a slug like creature that try's to kill the gladers. he goes threw what they call the changing that brings back some of his memories. so he figures out how to stop the hole game by tryping in a code from the maze into a computer. the computer is in a hole that is hidden from the naked eye. so him and 60 other gladers that decided to come traveled to the hole where they were meet by 15 grievers. they fought the grievers so that Tommy and Teresa could get threw the hole. they got threw the hole put the code in the computer and stoped everything. only 21 of them survived the ordeal. they meet the creators and as soon as they could talk to them a group bursted in and killed the creators took the kids and told them that the world was mostly destroyed by solar flars and that there is a virus going around called the flaring and that they were put in the maze to find the smartest peope to help make a cure for the virus the book ends with Tommy talking to toresa and telling her that he wishes he could remember what kinda relationship they had leaving room for the next book.

Week 8 Huckleberry Finn Tyler E

Since last week Huck has ran away from his father and left the cabin looking like a murder scene. Huck fled to Jackson's island and ended up finding Jim and decided to travel with Jim. As they travel they continue to run into trouble, like running into a wrecked steam boat that has robbers on it and having a steam boat hit his and Jim's raft leading to Huck running into two families at war. After a while Huck runs into two con-men that say that they are a duck and dauphin. I think that these two men are going to get Huck and Jim in a lot of trouble, because they are scamming people from town to town as they travel. Huck is like Holden, because they both don't have good relations with their parents. This book is like Of Mice and Men, because in both of those books blacks don't have rights in society. I look they book so far, because Huck is always seeming to get into trouble and if he doesn’t the trouble seems to find him. This keep the book interesting. As I read this book I'm starting to understand why it's considered a classic book and why it's so popular.

13 Reasons Why- Colleen Curtiss

The book, Thirteen Reason Why, really makes you think about the way you treat others.  Hannah, the one who kills herself, recorded 7 tapes to explain why she killed herself.  At first the reasons weren’t terrible and I thought why would she kill herself over that little reason.  Now though, you start to see all the reasons being put together in one.  All the reasons are connected in one way, it’s like a snow ball.  Once you push the snowball down the hill it gets bigger and bigger and sometimes you can’t stop it.   I don’t want to spoil the book for anybody in case they read it someday, but it’s really sad when you figure out what happened and why the main Character, Clay, the one listening to the tapes, is on them.  I don’t believe he deserved to be on there, but just like the book says, he needed to know.  If I was Clay I would have broken down if I knew I could of saved Hannah somehow.  Also, as Clay is listening to the tapes and walking around, he sees some of the other people whose names were on the tapes.  He sometimes wants to hurt those people for what they did, and who wouldn’t?  Some of these people did unspeakable things and it’s sad to think that some of these things are probably going on in our school right now.  I think one of the worst reasons so far is that this one guy, who lives next door, would sit outside her window and take pictures of her in her room.  How creepy is that?!

STiLL ALiCE -Ryan Makinen week 8

The novel that I am reading is STiLL ALiCE. Alice has a husband and three kids. Her husband and her are both professors at the University of Harvard. Alice likes to run quite often, and she always runs the same route. One day she was in the middle of Harvard Square when she was running, and she had no idea where she was and it took her a while to remember how to get home. She has also been forgetting words that she wants to say in her lectures and has missed a plane flight because she forgot about it; which has never happened in the past. Alice is fifty, so she thinks that she might have menopause which could be the cause of her memory loss. Alice saw her doctor for some blood tests, and the doctor recommended that she would see a neurologist. After doing some tests, the neurologist diagnosed her with Alzheimer's disease. Now that she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's she's been wondering if there will be a time in her life when she forgets her family and is incapable of communicating with anyone. Curious if she received the disease because of genetics, she is now putting her blame on her deceased father and is worried that her children might get Alzheimer's when they get older.
