The novel that I chose to read was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Towards the beginning of the book, we learn that Melinda, the main character, lost all of her friends and is very lonely now. At first we really never learned why exactly that was, but then we come to find out she called the cops on a party that she went to during summer. During the book, she refers to “IT” a lot, and we later learned who “it” was. Andy Evans. He raped her that summer at a party and that’s why she called the cops. No one believes Melinda because Andy denies it, so everyone turned against her because she got a lot of people in trouble by calling the cops. My predictions for the rest of the book are that Melinda is pregnant from him and that Andy will try to take advantage of her again. I think that in time, she will make friends and people will start to accept her again and I hope that she gets her grades up and gets professional help to deal with her problems. So far, I find this book to be really interesting and it always makes me think about what’s going to happen next. It’s an easy read for me and I can’t wait to keep reading!
