Holden growing up week 6 :) amandab
Growing up for holden is hard. He has been forced to grow up because his brother died and now his parents are sending him away to boreding schools. Holden has to look after himself and he has truble with his thoughts about things and he is in no condition after his brother just died for him to look after himself and reasize that he needs to grow up fast than others normaly do. In the book when he goes home he starts to change and it shows he matured more than the last time he was home. Also Holden doesnt exactly show that he knows how to grow up. He is always getting close to people and then running away from them. He doesnt understand that family and friends are part of the key to happyness. He needed to have freinds and family around him to help him deal with the new berden he had to take on. But the only one that seemed to help was his sister. The only one he truely thought was inisent. Every one else were phoneys. Growing up earlyer than when you normaly have to is difficult. I had to grow up faster when my parents seperated. It wasnt easy but i had friends and family to support me and help me through my hard times. there were times that i wanted to push every one away but thats where holden whent wrong. you need people to help you through these things or else you feel alone like Holden did.

I completely agree with you Amanda!Holden did have to grow up faster than other kids his age because of how he was being moved from school to school and how his parents didn't really communicate with him that much so he basically had to act like an adult because he was on his own.In another word he doesn't know how to act older too.and like you said he doesn't understand that family and friends are like the main part to happiness. due to the fact that he didn't have friends and family around him he had a hard time coping with his brother's death. dealing with death by your self i feel is the hardest thing, i know that i would want someone or people around me when someone i was extremely close to died. at least Holden had his sister there to talk to, so he wasn't totally alone.

It must have been really hard to grow up with your parents being separated, I can’t even imagine and sometimes I forget how privileged I am to still have my parents together. You are completely right about Holden having to struggle to grow up fast. I feel like he really didn’t have a good connection with his family in the first place and instead of him being able to stay at home, they just sent him away and were never able to work on it. I feel he didn’t try in school just so he could go home and be with his family, especially Phoebe because he was so close to her. I couldn’t imagine be away for my family that long. I’m really close to my brother and when he is away for 2 weeks, sometimes I really begin to miss him. Holden never does want to be around other people either sometimes because he is always pushing his friends away and never trying to create a good relationship.
