The Perks of Being a Wallflower

My novel of choice that I chose to read is called The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Right away this book caught my attention. It's about a boy named Charlie that is a freshman in high school. He is completely lost in the high school world until two seniors take him under their wings. His innonence and weirdness reminded me much of the Catcher in the Rye. Holden was also lost in the world of high school. In Wallflower, Charlie acts much like the Charlie we know in Flowers for Algernon. They both share a curiosity about women and a lack of knowledge about a lot of real world concepts. They also both keep kind of a journal. In my new book Charlie is writing letters to an anonymous friend about his day to day happenings, and the other Charlie keeps those progress reports. I feel like Perks of Being a Wallflower will be a very interesting book. Charlie will have to endure many things he won't be able to comprehend without the help of his new friends. He has to watch his sister thats a senior in high school deal with pregnancy and her unsupportive boyfriend. When I ready the summary for this book it really got me interested. So hopefully I will look forward to reading each night. This book most relates to Flowers for algergon, and out of all the books we've read that has been my favorite. I really hope i end up liking this book!

  1. I have read The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I have to say I did not like the book at all. I can see where you can make the connection of The Catcher in the Rye, but I feel more than just Charlie’s innocent and weirdness, him and Holden both have times of depression and are looking for people they can connect with. You could even say that Charlie is like Holden, Lennie, and Charlie because of his experiences with women and lack of knowledge with women. My favorite part of the book was the Rocky Horror Picture Show remake I could not stop laugh the whole time I read that part in the book. The reason I did not like the book was because I am not into those type of books where people do not fall in love and have a happily ever after by the end of the book. I hope you like the book better than I did.

  2. This sounds like a really interesting book. It seems this book is going to be really easy to relate this book to Flowers for Algernon. I also picked a book about a kid in high school, but in my book she kills herself and wants everyone who was part of it to know. So she records 7 tapes with 13 reasons why and before she kills herself she sends it to the first person. After the first person listens to the tapes and then they are supposed to send them to the next person on the tapes. She also threatens that if you don’t send them on; someone is watching and will publicize the tapes so that everyone will know the true story. I have to admit it’s kind of a scary book because sometimes she said she hopes she is watching them listen to the tape. I hope you have a good time listening to your book.
