Mental Instability - Lisa W.

Holden’s mental instability comes from his family and not being able to adapt to social environments he is surrounded by. He is the odd one out in his family. All of Holden’s siblings are smart and their parents are very proud of them, Holden is the opposite of this. He doesn’t try in school causing him to be kicked out of three and all his parents do is find a new school for him to go to. They don’t seem to care much about what he does just as long as they don’t have to deal with him all of the time. Since they are like this I think Holden feels that his family, especially parents do not truly care about him which greatly affects his mental instability. This causes a lot of problems for Holden in his current life. He has to deal with always doubting himself which makes him doubt most other things as well. Holden always finds flaws in anything he can and I feel he does this because that is how he looks at himself and he does not know any other way to view things. If Holden had a more supportive family who noticed when he did wrong and tried to help him to do right then he would be a lot better off.
