Genders in Of Mice And Men

Ello fellow classmates, big rayn here to fill yall in, on the weekly post.
In the novel Of Mice And Men, women are portrayed in a less typical manner than they are today. Women in today's society are more often portrayed as victims (sorry ladies but it's true). Yet IN this novel they are seen as perpetrators, because they are responsible for most arguments and fights on the ranch. Curley feels threatened by others about his wife and doesn't ever really seem to trust her either. She is a whore by the way

  1. Lexi D. here, I disagree with you patrick! I thought at first she was a whore but it's not her fault that people see her as that. Her Husband doesn't spend anytime with her, cause he only wants to do things that involve fighting! I'm sorry but sometimes a girl just wants a man who will be there for her and talk to her cause that should show how much he cares! But since he doesn't that he's a JERK!

  2. I agree with you a hundred percent. Curly's wife is always looking for trouble when she should be paying more attention to Curly. It seems like Curly was trying to find his wife, while his wife was looking for other guys. She is also a gold digger. The only reason why she married Curly in the first place was because her dreams didn't become reality. She wanted to become a movie star but as soon as she realized that it wasn't possible she settled down with Curly so she didn't have to do anything anymore. Curly's wife is a lazy, gold digging, whore.

  3. I agree with a hundred percent too Patty. We all see Curly's wife as the person who is going to cause trouble in the novel. Although I think we find out at the end of the book that Curly's wife did not really deserve all of the criticism that we as a class were giving her, she definitely was the cause of what happened at the end of the book to Lennie. I do disagree with you, Big Rayn, on you saying that Curly’s wife is a whore. I think she explained herself well to Lennie and I do not view her as a whore anymore. She was just lonely and hated the way Curly acted and was just looking for someone to talk to. I would be lonely too if I lived on a ranch with no one I knew. I think that the author purposely made her look bad in the book.

  4. Hi there Big RYAN. I think that what you say has some points. But I am going to have to agree with Lexi. At first i thought she was a whore, but it really was a misunderstanding. she was just lonely and needed someone to talk to and i bet that if there were other women in the novel she would have tried to talk with them. I do think it is sad whatt Lennie does to her and I wish that didn't happen. I also agree with that she was the center of all the fights because she wanted someone to talk to and thats the authors doing.
