Power is something that almost everyone has but in the book no one really has power over anyone but Charlie being the mentally retarded person has a hard time to be accepted and to have power over anyone. Most of the time everyone else thinks that they can control him and tell him to do things that he doesn't know are bad. He doesn't realize that people rant being friendly they just want to have a laugh at someone that they can take control over him and just sit there and laugh at him not with him as he thinks they are doing because he doesn't know otherwise. Charlie wants to have power before he became smart because he talked about being as smart as someone and he just wants to not be the lowest of all the people that he is around. I think Dr. Nemur also wants to have power because he is talking about Charlie as if he was a lab rat and he isn't just like a regular person so I think that he is trying to be a very successful person and bringing everyone down when trying to get there no matter what.
Derek, i completely agree with you about how charlie shows power and has a hard time accepting the fact that he is different then other people. also on how everyone else thinks they can control and tell him what to do and make fun of him just because he is different and dosen't know what they are doing to him! Dr.Nemur also shows power to which i also agree with you on because of how he acts like and treats Charlie as if he is a lab rat just like you said and i also dont think that he truley cares for Charlie that he just wants to have fame and have everyone know that he created this super smart person that went from being completely dumb to being extremely smart.to me he doesnt seem into helping Charlie but into helping himself!
ReplyDeleteI would say i seen power over people in the book. I think that curly for sure had no power over his wife..but the people who avoided talking to her jest because he said not to. Also she seemed to have some sot of power over curly in her own way because when she was talking to other dudes that made him loose his temper with out even a hint before hand. Like with lennie he just decided he was going to punch him. But obviosly lennie kicked his ass. So i think his reactions because of his wife leave him power less in a different kind of way.
