In Of Mice and Men, I believe that the only people who have power in George and Lennie's world are those who own property. George, Lennie, and the other guys who sleep in bunk room, even Slim, have very little power around the ranch. The power in the novel rests with those who own land or property. Lennie and George dream of having their own property or land (and rabbits), and that is what they always work for.
Not having power certainly affects the characters in Of Mice and Men. Without land or property or their own home, Lennie and George have no real power. They must work for other people, constantly taking orders and working long days. George says at one point, had they had land, they would be working only 7 hours a day as opposed to the 11 hour days that they currently worked. Power also affects those who have it in the novel. Curly has power over Lennie and George because his father owns the ranch. With this power, perhaps because of it, Curly is a jerk to those below him. If Curly had no power, he would probably be a much nicer and friendlier guy.
