In Flowers for Algernon, People do not listen to Charlie and his thoughts; this is because he is mentally challenged. Also after Charlie has his surgery he doesn’t know how to act at first or be normal. Noone knows what to do with Charley because of his age and the way he acts. Charlie could never express his feelings because everyone would just laugh at him and he never knew why they were laughing. Charlie eventually gets smarter after his surgery, and the doctors and scientists want to keep it on the down low and they don’t want him to act unusual. Charlie’s social skills are still week even thought he is much smarter. This could seem frustrating for Charlie but at least it’s a small step to being normal for a change. Charlie and Ms. Alice Kinnian are with each other and when Charlie is talking she cant seem to understand what is going on. Even if Charlie wanted to go back to normal she cant because they removed part of his brain. Charlie does not have a voice in any part of the book except for the things he writes, throughout the whole book everyone around him tells him what to do and where to go and whenever he wants to do something, he is trapped in a cage and cant get out.
