Power...is it really worth it?
All Charlie wanted was to be smart and to be the person his mom wanted him to be. Once he got the operation and started becoming smart he realized that it wasn't really all he thought it was. All of his friends aren't really his friends, they all just made fun of him. Then when he became smart they kind of became afraid of him because he was above them. Charlie began to realize that not everything was as amazing as he thought it was in his world. The professors aren't really that smart, he has no friends, and then he met his dad...He didn't even recognize him any more. At that point Charlie knew that he was going to regress and didn't want to build his father up only just to let him down again. Once Charlie realized that the procedure would not last and witnessed what Algernon was going through I think he became scared. Scared of losing Alice and all he had worked for. Maybe our world isn't what he thought it was and everyone isn't what they portray to be on the outside but it's better than what he had before. I don't believe that Charlie ever dreamed that the real world would be so harsh or that he would resent what he has become. He has learned a lot in a short period of time and helped the research for many people in the future. He should respect what they did for him and not regret a single bit of it.
