loss of power and voice.

In Flowers for Algernon Chalie is a person with no power or voice. During the convention he had no chance to talk about what he wanted to. The doctors all said that they made him, that is partly true, but he is still a person that has a voice. Freedom of speech is one of our best and most used amendments. By taking away his voice they took away some of his rights.

Chalie may seem like he has power with each I Q point he gains, but from the reading it seems like every little step forward is another step into a cage. For the better part of the book the people that have power is the doctors and professors that run the experiment. One way they keep the power for themselves is they do no let him learn specific subjects because it will “confuse him” even tho he is one of if not the smartest out of all of them at this time. The only way that Charlie got power back is when he ran away. Its like fighting the power of the doctor and regains it for him self and Algernon. It maybe an uphill battle but he will keep going.

  1. Hey mark!
I agree with you completely Charlie should have said what he feels sense he is the one being tested. He would know better then the doctors how he feels and if the surgery worked or not. I like that you talked about him not having his rights it was very factual I liked that a lot.
Also i agree with the point you made about Charlie not having power but regained some by running away. That statement is true he needed too get away from the doctors and the testing being done. I would of done the same thing sometimes you need a break from things you have too experience a lot and he was smart too make a sence there at the convention because then it shows too the crowed that he wasn't being listened too. When really the convention was all about him and he should of been the main focus.
