Struggling to be heard: Of Mice and Men week 3

In the novel Of Mice and Men the only characters that have a voice to be heard is George and slim. Everyone looks to slim for some need of approval as if he is a god of some sort. The few words slim utters carry immense power and seem to carry such weight that you would be a fool to ignore them. In the case of George and Lennie it is somewhat different, George's voice is the only of the two to ever be heard because he simply does not want Lennie to mess things up for the two of them.
However the issue of power is not very apparent in the case of George and Lennie. George does not want power over Lennie, it feels as if he simply wants to protect Lennie from what he does not know about. this could take a drastic change however later in the novel but for now it is innocent. There is not a real issue of power with Slim either. Slim is not constantly assuming authority and the power he carries, he simply goes along with it. It is not Slim that gives himself power it is the people around him that give him the power he carries.
