Week 3 post

In the novel Of Mice and Men, I believe there are three levels of power. Curly has the most power in the novel because his dad is the owner of the ranch. Therefore, if Curly gets into trouble his dad will take his side no matter what. Curly's power affects his character a lot, because he attempts to intimidate the other workers at the ranch. George is in the power level below Curly because he essentially works for Curly. However George has power over Lennie. Lennie is mentally challenged so he needs someone to look after him and that happens to be George. George treats Lennie like his younger brother. George can make fun of Lennie but when anyone else picks on Lennie, George sticks up for him. Slim and Candy are also in the same power level George is. They all live on the ranch and work for the same person. Lennie has the least power in the novel because he can't take care of himself. All Lennie wants to do is to pet anything soft. He just wants to help George earn enough money so they can someday own a ranch. The only reason why Lennie is dedicated to following George's instructions is to increase his chances to tend the rabbits.

  1. I definitely agree with you when you said that there are three levels of power, that totally makes sense. I agree with you when you say George has power but over what? the ranch? or just Lennie? Why are Slim and Candy on the same level as George? I dont think so. But, I agree with you when you said Lennie has the least power. He really does, hes disabled.
