Of the two novels, I preferred reading Flowers for Algernon. Although both dealt with mentally handicapped men and were similar in some ways, I definitely liked Flowers for Algernon better. Flowers for Algernon was a much quicker read than Of Mice and Men seemed to be. Of Mice and Men was a not exciting book, and the story line could have been much better. I also thought that Flowers for Algernon was better because the story line was something that could actually happen. The operation Charlie went through could possibly be something that may exist sometime in the near future.
The mentally handicapped characters in each book were portrayed very differently. The author of Flowers for Algernon seemed like he didn't want you to be on Charlie's side, especially when he was smart, because Charlie was portrayed as arrogant and rude. In Of Mice and Men, the author portrayed Lennie as a good character and made you feel bad for him when things went bad.
Of the two movies, I preferred Of Mice and Men because it was more action packed, unlike Flowers for Algernon which was trippy in some parts. The movie was also slow and confusing.
Mice of men was way better. Well both books were extremely boring but mice of men was way shorter. Flowers for Algernon I don't know it just wasn't that interesting and the ending was really stupid. It should of ended a different way than it did. Yes it was more realistic and was future based but mice of men could of happened in the past. Mice of men felt like to me like it was in the past and flowers for Algernon was in the future. Still mice of men had a better ending and it wasn't so drawn out. Mice of men had a way better movie two. In flowers for Algernon were so dall and were layed but but in mice of men that were kind of up to speed and had more interesting things happen like that whole fight power struggle between curly lennie and George. And the ending was kind of a shocker un like in flowers for Algernon
ReplyDeleteI liked Flowers for Algernon better, than Mice of Men. I also didn't like how the books were similar because they both dealt with mentally handicapped people. I thought Flowers of Algernon was a slower read than Mice of Men because the book made you stop and read it again. It made you stop and read it again because they would spell words wrong and stuff like that. Also Mice of men was a quicker read because it was shorter. I thought Flowers for Algernon gave away the ending of the book because they had Algernon die and Charlie knew that was gonna happen to him so he visited the Warren State home. In Mice of Men I thought that the ending was a hugh surprise because no one knew that George would kill Lennie. I also thought that both books could be realistic because someone could go through an operation like that now days.
