Jake Whitney Week 2

I don't think this novel should be read in high school. It is a very easy read, maybe eighth grade or freshmen is more appropriate, not senior level. I still think the novel is relevant today because people of science are still looking to develop surgeries that boost one's intelligence. I did think the novel was hard to relate to in the sense that we really don't know too much about Charlie's past so we don't understand how his past influenced his newly found intelligence. I have not read any novels like this, I prefer non-fiction. I have read Anthem by Ayn Rand which deals with finding a new identity. I really enjoyed that book and would recommend that book over Flowers For Algernon any day of the week. I like it a lot more because the plot for Anthem is much more exciting than Flowers For Algernon. The books are similar because they both deal with finding a new identity but are different because Anthem is set in a dystopian society where everyone is the same and Flowers For Algernon is about a retarded man having an operation. In conclusion, I feel like Flowers For Algernon is too easy of a read for high school.
