Speak (sorry I forgot)

The novel I am reading is called Speak, it is about a freshman girl in high school named Melinda. She is not liked by many students in her student body because of a party over the summer. Melinda I believe was possibly raped at this party. She ended up calling the cops on this party, and all the students found out it was Melinda who called the cops. She has said that she showered for three hours after the party, which many rape victims shower after a rape. Also she calls an upperclassmen male I believe by "IT". She doesn't give him a name, but describes him as a monster who she tries her best to avoid. Melinda fears him and is intimidated by him, but I as the reader have to keep reading more to figure out why. Also Melinda’s family is having some issues. Her parents seem to not get along and it looks like they are most likely cheating on each other with both of them knowing about the other. Melinda’s only friend is a new girl named Heather, who I think will be the first person she tells about the night of the party. I choose this book because I have heard many good things about it, and it seemed interesting.
