Week 8, Tyler P
What up class. The novel I chose was Heaven is For Real and the story is exciting. My book talks about a man named Todd Burpo (the author) and his struggle for belief as his son goes through a life-ending surgery with his bursted appendix. The way the story is made interesting is by the suspense that plays out the plot. His son is a loving young boy with a huge heart and full of life. As he begins to get worse his attitude changes to a boy who seems lifeless in the process. Todd Burpo stood by his sons side in hope that something would go well. Nothing went well and all got worse. Once Todd and Sonja took their son to emergency care they were told the surgery must begin quickly. As Todd received the news he started to question his belief in god. Todd had all the answers until such events occurred and at that point had no clue how to handle them. All he could do is pray. Pray for his son and pray that god was still there watching over him. I compared my story to Of Mice and Men because of George and Lennie's same attitude towards their goals in life. They worked hard and truly believed that they would one day live on their own plantation away from the rest of society. Todd's belief was strong to go with his big heart for others. The difference between the two was that Todd's beliefs were weak when times were rough as George and Lennie's stayed true throughout the novel. Belief in yourself is the key to happiness. Colton got out of surgery only to tell his story about heaven and how he spoke with his miscarriage sister. This brought back the belief in his parents and they lived on day by day knowing that god was there the whole time.
