Speak week 7 JMP

The book that I chose was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson the reason that I chose this book is because it sounded interesting, more interesting than anything else that I looked up at least. It is about a girl that calls the cops on a party that all her friends are at and now no one likes her and she has to cope with that struggle and all of the repercussions of being a rat. Nobody likes a rat so it will be very interesting to see how she overcomes the difficulties that she is most definitely bound to face. The connection between this book and Catcher in the Rye is that both of the main characters are outcasts, if you will, and they must choose how they will face their opposition. When Holden tried to stand up for himself it ended badly for him, getting the snot kicked out of him by those bigger than him that he talked back to. To compare this book to Of Mice and Men it would have to be learning how to act around others after a big change and the realization of that difference from who you were to who you have become.

  1. This book does sound like it would be interesting. I think that it was a good choice for a choice novel because it actually good happen in real life. Im sure that there are multiple times already somewhere in this world that there was a real life similar thing that happened. This can kind of relate in a way to my book, "Slam!", because in the book, the main character Slam has a little brother named Derek. Whenever, Slam does something wrong, Derek usually goes tells his mom. He is not a huge rat because he isn't off busting parties or anything but inside the Harris household, he definitely qualifies as one. Overall, I liked my choice novel and it is keeping me interested and I hope that your novel of choose does the same thing for you.

  2. I just realized that my comment was a little too short so I am adding this to my comment. I can also see how you can compare something like this to Of Mouse and Men. It is true that big changes can be fun or not so fun and George and Lenny had to deal with many and obviously this girl has to deal with being a rat.
