"Speak"

I chose the book, "Speak" becuase it seemed very interesting. This book is about a freshman girl who is an outcast. Her X-friends treat her badly and all they do is make fun of her. She gets raped at a party she goes to and goes "mute". Until one of her teachers makes her write a story, and she pours out her problems onto paper hopefully to let go of the things that have happened to her in the past. I can compare this book to the ones we have read in class becuase she obvioulsy is an outcast. Something is making her different from everyone around her. Her name is Melinda and she has social problems from things that have happened to her in her past. I can relate her to Holden from Catcher in the Rye becuase they both separate themselves from society. Melinda seems like a person who keeps everything inside. No one really knows what goes on in her life, l ike Holden no one knows what has happened to him in the past. Their past both cause them to become anti social. People do not like Melinda, and we have yet to figure out why.
