The novel I choose for my novel of choice is Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher. This novel is about a young girl who’s around sixteen years of age named Hannah Baker who commits suicide, but before she killed herself she recorded her voice on cassette tapes. On the cassette tapes she told thirteen people why she committed suicide and why they were the reason. One of the people that got the cassette tapes was named Clay Jensen who didn't want anything to do with the tapes Hannah made. While Clay is listening to Hannah's voice she tells Clay that he is, in some way responsible for her death. Clay is very scared and thinks it is a prank but it’s not. I selected this novel because it seemed interesting to read and it caught my eye and it takes a lot for a book to catch my eye. a connection i made with this novel to the novel Of Mice and Men is how Lennie in Of Mice and Men, talked about how George would have a better life if he wasn't around him and in Thirteen Reasons Why, Hannah killed herself and talks about on the cassette tapes why those certain people cause her to kill herself and so it relates to Of Mice and Men.
“Thirteen Reasons Why” sounds like a really interesting book. To me sounds like Hannah could never say what she felt and making those tapes after she committed suicide, she could say anything she wanted to. I think this could also relate to teenagers now because there are still bullies out there and sometimes those people can not take it anymore. This book would be a good book for more students at the high school to read, so they understand how people feel when they make fun of them and the person being bullied can not do much help it. As it sounds, like you explained, how Clay did not want anything to do with Hannah’s tapes and though they were a prank explains that he truly is one of the reasons why she killed herself and bullies are usually like that where they will not confess to what they did.
