The House of Scorpions, Damien H

My novel of choice is The House of Scorpions. The main character is Matt Alacran who is a clone of the most powerful man in a country called Opium.  This powerful man is El Patron a 143 year old drug lord, who plans to harvest Matt’s organs when his own fail. Clones in this world are treated worse than animals. By law clones are supposed to have their intelligence blunted at birth, although El Patron told the doctors to spare Matt for unknown reasons. Matt becomes one of the only intelligent clones in existence. Matt is raised by Claire in total isolation. His only human interaction is with Claire and in order to substitute a human connection he talks to his stuffed animals. But one day some children walk up to the house and he begins to realize that there is an entire world he has not experienced out there. He ends up smashing a window to get out but cuts himself when he jumps through the window. At this point the children don’t know he’s a clone and they bring him to a doctor. The doctor however notices the tattoo on his foot which states Property of Patron. The doctor orders the children to put him back at the house. They end up dumping him in front of the house and abandon him.

  1. Hi Damien your name of your book sound very interesting. Why is your main character a clone of another person. Does this book take place in the future or past. Where does this place take place in. Does Matt know in the beginning that El Paton won't his organs . Does El Paton keep Matt in a prison area. Why do they have cones. Does everyone have a clone or is it just the rich people. Do you think that El Paton payed the doctor not to stun Matt. Why do you think that Matt Isolated all the time. Do you think that Matt will have a relation ship with claire. Why do you think that it took Matt so long to notice that their was a out side world. My last question is why the kids didn't help Matt escape. I hope you enjoy the rest of your book

  2. to be honest i would of liked to read your book too. it sounds like a very interesting idea or concept about now people do not only look down upon different races but they look down on people that are clones even if they are not a looked down upon race. i think that not everybody can afford there own clones so only the rich people can get them. i think it would be cool that i had a clone but i feel it would go against my religion and for the most part a lot of religions. only god should be able to create and give life, not man or science.
