The book Pieces of the Heart is somewhat of a love story because it has the main character, Caroline, falling in love with her neighbor, Drew, but he was married to her childhood friend, Shelby; she died. Also Caroline’s brother, Jude, died from a car accident and she was in the car with him. She had to get a heart transplant and now she has to stay with her mom because Caroline’s job is really over-bearing and it gives her a lot of stress. Drew had a daughter with Shelby; her name is Jewel. Caroline has been giving her swimming lessons so she can get on the school swimming team. Caroline used to be an amazing swimmer, but since the car accident, she has not been swimming. She might be scared to because she does not want to remember the past from it being a great time in her, but once her brother died, everything about her changed. She kind of thinks Jude was killed by her because he was never supposed to drive and she blames herself too much and covers a lot up about who she used to be. Caroline’s mom is also mad at her for his death and Caroline thinks her mom wished she was the one who should have died and not her brother.
The way you wrote about the book you are reading is very confusing and I do not really understand what is going on in your book. You should have done one character than the next one and the next till you got through all the characters you wanted to talk about. I can see the similarities it has with The Catcher in the Rye, like her brother dying and Holden’s brother dying. Also, her being in love with someone she can’t have kind of like Holden and Jane. Your book also, has connections with Of Mice and Men. First is Lennie liking Curley’s wife and not being able to have her cause she is married. Next, Lennie feels bad about killing the puppy and Curley’s wife than George feels bad for having to kill Lennie. I can also, see a connection with Flowers for Algernon with Charlie wanting Alice and Fay. I hope you like your book and its ending.
