Rebellious

In the book Catcher in the Rye, Holden basically rebels against everything. He rebels against his friends, parents, and society. Holden doesn't associate with hardly anyone and he gets in fights with his friends. Holden also flunks school because he doesn't feel like anyone cares about him. He feels like he will never be as good as his older brother and he doesn't believe his parents care about him as much as his older brother. His rebellious ways has a negative effect on him because he struggles to have fun and enjoy life. Part of him doesn't want to be alone but he also doesn't like to make friends because he thinks everyone is a phony. Holden is a very jealous person and it effects his way of life. He also gets into arguments that he has no chance in solving. When he goes out with Sally they get into an argument and Holden ends up walking alone. Holden has a hard time fitting in with society and he lives a very different life than most people. Holden never feels comfortable being social, and he will continue to live alone for the rest of his life if he doesn't change his ways
