Week 5 Catcher in the Rye Post

I believe Holden is rebelling against society because he feels that society does not want to accept him.
If Holden really wanted to be accepted and fit in he would be more outgoing and make an attempt to make friends.
Holden could easily go to the football games and try to be surrounded by new people who he might possibly
enjoy the presence of. It's interesting to watch Holden interact with people when he does get the opportunity,
and watch him lie to almost anyone he talks to. For example, the woman on the train whom he lied to about her
son being a really nice, fun kid. That was an acceptable lie, because he was only being polite to her, not letting the woman
know that Holden doesn't like her son. The lies that are not acceptable are the ones where Holden tells the woman
he is leaving the academy early because he is having a brain tumor removed and cant stay at school.

  1. yeah jared I think that if Holden really wanted to he could fit in with society if he wanted to.
listening to his interactions with other people is interesting because he can never be himself because he is soo uncomfortable. You made some really good points that he could have asiuly gone to the football games and try to meet people but he refuses. It's Holden's own fault that he is a loner, end of story.
