Andre's life was planned out from the second his father found out his mother was pregnant. His father, an Olympic boxer in Iran, decided that he was going to be the best tennis player in the world. His father was stripped of his gold medal at the Olympics and then was forced to flea the country and immigrate to the United States. Mike Agassi, Andre's father, ruined the lives of Andre's sister Rita, and his older brother, Philly. Determined not to make the same mistake of failing to create professional tennis prodigies out of his first two children, Mike went about a different training method with Andre.
The day Andre turned ten, he was shipped off to a boarding school in Florida, called the Bradenton Tennis Academy. He would spend four hours in the morning attending school before heading home for a sloppy lunch and then heading to the courts until the ball could no longer be seen.
Andre and Holden are both shipped off to boarding schools because there parents believe it is in there best interest. Neither Andre nor Holden really has any friends or family they can relate to. The only family member Holden can relate to is Phoebe. Andre has a best friend name Perry, and he is very close with his brother Philly. Neither of the two is close at all with their fathers.
This is one of my favorite books. Open is probably my favorite auto biography. Andre Agassi's story is a very sad one but in the end he ends up being very successful and is a great role model for any tennis player or child with under appreciative parents. Andre Agassi has a very interesting life story and how he became a pro tennis player. He worked very hard to meet his goal. Also in the story, Andre talks about his struggles with depression and drug addiction and how it affected his tennis career. However, Andre later overcomes his drug addiction and depression problems and is now remembered as one of the greatest tennis player of all time. When I read this book I was very inspired and also thankful for the life I have. On the inside you can tell Andre is a very good person and that is why he is my favorite tennis player of all time.
