What's up class.
The book I am reading for my free choice novel is I am Legend by Richard Matheson. It is about a man named, Robert Neville, who is the lone survivor of an epidemic that has turned everyone into vampires. He has to barricade himself into his house at night to avoid being killed or being bitten by these vampires which would then turn him into a vampire as well. He lives day by day and has to deal with many issues such as loneliness and alcoholism. He uses the daylight to get things done outside, when the vampires are in hiding to avoid the sunlight which kills them. One connection between I am Legend and The Catcher in the Rye, is that Holden Caulfield and Robert Neville both have to cope with deaths in their immediate family. The death of Allie Caulfield affects Holden on a daily basis and adds to his depression. Robert Neville has to deal with the death of his wife, Virginia, and the death of his daughter, Kathy. Neville finds himself thinking about them almost once a day which isn't healthy for him because he puts him in a depressed state where he has no moticvation.
Calvin,
ReplyDeleteI heard your book is really good I haven't read it before but I think its a great choice. I've considered myself reading it so hopefully it turn outs good for you. I really like how you tell in great detail about the book it convinced me to want to read it. The issues you described that he had were interesting and well to the point. I also liked that you compared with the other books we read. You made some good points with his depression state, comparing that between the two novels. Your novel sorta relates to my book because my character goes through a short time period where he is depressed without any friends over his school break. I'm reading the book "The perks of being a wallflower" it is a very fast read and very interesting anybody would love this book, no matter what gender you are.
