When can you say that you are Grown Up?
When is it appropriate to say that you are grown up? People can view this as many different things and can throw back many different answers, but in fact we are never really done growing and maturing, until the day we die. Every day will be a new experience and something different than the last and we can continue to learn from it or neglect it stupidly. In the Novel holden chooses to reject the fact that he isnt even close to the age that he views himself as. He is a rebel against scociety and thinks it is appropriate when in fact it is quite childish. Growing up is truely one of the best times in your life, you learn and accomplish soo much. Holden is trying to rush growing up when in facr you should enjoy every day and live it to its full potential.

you are right, holden is still very young and he needs to grow up. He needs to start becomming himself instead of lying and trying to become other people. If holden just realizes that the real holden caulfield is better than the lying one he would be fine. it just sucks now a days that people cannot be themselves, you see it happen all over dewitt high school, people try to fit in and be in cliques its dumb in my opinion, whats the point of you if you are not yourself? be yourself or be no one at all.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an interesting point that you brought up-- that we are never done maturing, until the day we die. I have had experiences with this in my life, because I had made decisions in the past that I thought were good and grown up, but then when I look back on them later, I see that it wasn't a mature decision to make.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was weird though, in the novel when Holden refused to act his age, and tried to be much older than he really is. He calls people phonies for trying to be someone they're not, but really he could be called a phony because like you said, it was quite childish for Holden to rebel against society completely.
I agree with you saying that we should enjoy every day and part of growing up. The process should not be rushed, as the maturing journey is extremely different for everyone!
