Growing up #6

No one can stay young forever. We all have to grow up and face the facts of life. There are things we would rather not have to deal with, but in order to grow up we have to. In the novel Catcher in the Rye, Holden tries to grow up and be an adult, but he skips many steps. He flunks out of school and misses out on things teenagers shouldn't, such as football games and other activities. His rebelious ways make him immature. Even though he is acting like an adult, always going to bars and staying by himself, he hasn't really grown up. You can't skip the important parts of life, like school. Your education is a big part of growing up, and Holden wants to ignore it. He needs to figure out what he wants from life because he can't keep going on like he is forever. Everyone needs to grow up and face reality, and the reality for Holden may not be what he wants it to be.
In my life I am facing something very similar. I have to graduate High School and go to college. If I don't do that then I will have a terrible life. I can't stay young and a teenager my whole life. During the next year I'm going to be doing a lot of growing up. I have to live on my own without my parents and get a job. I can't just skip schooling and say I want to have a good job with good money. I have to work hard for that, and its all in the process of growing up. I wish I didn't have to worry about paying bills or buying my own things but in the next few years that will be reality for me. I can't stay with my parents forever. I want to have my own family one day and I can only get there by growing up. Ive grown up a lot throughout high school but im not done yet. There is so much more I have to do before I've fully grown up. Reality is setting in for me and I am going to have to accept the fact thatI have to grow up really soon.

  1. This is a very interesting way of looking at it. It is also very true. I think getting a proper education is a huge part of growing up. Holden missed out on this part. He is lacking some of the life skills that most people his age already have. He is not very smart and he does not know how to push him self.If Holden does not change his ways he will not be very successful in life. Most people do not want to grow up but when the time comes they realize there is no other choice if they want to be successful. For Holden, his time to grow up has come and he refused to do it.He is running out of time to grow up or else he will never be very happy with his life.
