Rebellion against Society Josh M
Holden rebels against society because he doesn't like anyone apart of it. Even though it seems he has some friends, I think deep down he doesn't like them at all. He thinks most people are phonies but at the same time he lies about everything when he interacts with others. He is a walking paradox because he is always contradicting himself by hating fake people, even though he is just as fake as them if not more. This has an effect on him because the more he does lie, the better he gets at it. As Holden gets better and better at lying, it becomes easier and easier for him to do it on a regular basis. The effect that has on society is quite obvious as well. With him lying all the time, he manipulates others into thinking he is somebody else. One example of this is all the times he goes out and drinks illegally. Holden is under the age to drink, but he chooses to do it all the time, and that links together with all his lying. Holden is rebelling because he is mad and he just doesn't care at all anymore. I believe that his brother dying is a main cause for all his anger.

Dear Mrs. Marble,
ReplyDeleteI find it very hard to write a comment on somebody's post without first starting with I agree.
Whats up Josh.
All I have to say after reading your post is wow; you just dropped bombs. I totally agree with your post and you explained it best. He is a “walking paradox”. That is what I was trying to say in my post but couldn't find the right words, but you knocked it out of the park, wow, I'm at my computer speechless. I agree that Holden is one of the phoniest people in the book, if not the phoniest. He hates fake people yet he himself is fake. You can't get much phonier than that. I also agree with that fact that he is rebelling against society and hates everything about it. I also agree that all his issues have something to do with his brother, Allie's, death.
