Holden is always rebelling against society and more importantly he is always rebelling against conformity. Holden just seems to have a problem and holden thinks that people who follow the rules of society are fake or in his words phony. He thinks that if you conform you have no real thoughts or feelings. Holden sees all these people and for some reason he just gets sick and it must have something to do with his mental instability. I feel like his rebellious ways are just making him more depressed. He seems to be a pessimist and only looks at the negative things about other people and life in general. He feels like he can’t relate to other people because he is against everything that a majority of people are following. His rebel ways of thinking also make him antisocial. For example, the way he talks to Sally and how he tells her his plan, which kind of freaks her out. He gets mad and tells her to that he doesn’t want to see her ever again. A normal person would never say that or consider a plan that Holden proposes. He brings it all upon himself and his way of thinking just makes it worse.
Dear Mrs. Marble,
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Calvin's comment on my post, if you haven't seen it yet. I also agree with Calvin's post as well. It is true that Holden just has major issues with his life and how he goes about living it. He is rebelling, I believe, because he gets a kick out of not conforming. He just thinks everything is boring, and it's his way of not being bored. He doesn't care at all either, which is quite obvious, considering his grades. Calvin, you hit it perfectly by talking about how he can't relate to others because he hates them so much, which leads flawlessly into being antisocial. The ways he talks to Sally is so weird and random, and he gets mad at her for nothing. She can't have a simple conversation with one of her friends that she saw at the show. Holden calls their conversation fake, and I have trouble reading it because I can't stand the way Holden acts. Calvin, I agree with everything your saying and I have no idea how I couldn't tell you on this comment.
