week 6 josh mccarthy statement #3

I do not believe the ways of society are set in stone at all because it is constantly changing everyday. Are the ways of society in the 1950s different than what the ways are now? Of course! Society changes in many ways and Holden was doing just that. He was being different and making things work out in his own head. His radical ideas may not make sense to the present society, but maybe it will in the future. Society is changing faster and faster with the help of technology and communication. The internet has set in place many ways that people can communicate with other and share different ideas and views towards society. Holden looks at society in a way that most people don't, which is why we think he is so weird. I think he thinks society is boring and him lying and not doing much is entertaining to him in some way. He just wants to shake things up just to see what happens. He sees society as a bunch of phonies, and basically hates everyone besides his sister because she is just an innocent kid. I believe society today would better suit Holden because it was so old school back then, and ideas couldn't be communicated fast enough, unlike our society today with all the computers and cell phones. Holden would be able to relate better with more people though things such as the internet.

  1. Society is always changing and people are always trying to catch up to it. I agree when you say that his ideas now may be so crazy but in the future they might make sense. I think that is really logical. To me he is kind of like Lady GaGa. Because she is always changing and basically she was so extreme to start and she continued to do that and she is just awesome. and Holden is like her because he does his own thing. He does not nessacarily stand out in a crowd, but he definitaly has his own crazy views and opinions.
