G is for Growing Up

Growing Up: Everyone has to grow up someday. Its a known fact, you get older and have too. Some people don't but most do. Whether its growing up in size, maturity, or aging growing up happens to everyone and everything. Holden like most was a late bloomer to grow up and start being mature. He was very insecure about his life and what he wanted to do with it because he felt like he always needed to live up to his siblings achievements. Holden like every other teenager attends school then later flunks out. Holden is different then most and takes out his problems in a weird way rather then talking them out he tries to escape his problems and not deal with them. Later, this just gives him more problems in the end to deal with. Holden feels alienated from the rest of society and doesn't fit in very well because he has a different way of going about certain situations. He's very quick to jump at other people about their problems which shows how he is very immature and not grown up. Holden creates barriers between himself and reality through his fantasies. Personally, I think that Holden was like Charlie and had something wrong with him to begin with and needs serious help. He is a very strange character and this book was very odd. k bye <3

  1. Although I do agree with some of the things that you mentioned above, there are a few things that I disagree on. You mentioned that Holden has issues, which I definitely agree with, but you said that he needed serious help. In my opinion I believe that Holden just might be struggling more with growing up than the average teen, but I don’t believe that the serious help that you’re talking about would help him. What I think would be best for Holden is just to let him do his own thing for longer. Part of growing up is learning from your mistakes and that is exactly what Holden needs. If Holden’s parents were to just get him a therapist or send him to another boarding school I don’t think it would help him. His drinking, lying, and sex issues are a part of growing up, his are a bit more dramatic than the average teen, but he needs to learn himself how to fix it and handle himself.
