week 6 post

I believe we must deal with the ways of society, even if we disagree with them, in order not to seclude ourselves from it. I think that is especially true with the main character Holden Caulfield from the novel The Catcher In The Rye. Holden was an anti-social kid who was not very happy. He was very critical of the few friends he has and everybody he meets. Holden did not deal with the ways of society he rebelled and because he rebelled he was secluded. I can relate to that because there are many instances in which I disagreed with someone or a group of people and therefore was kind of left out or secluded. you won’t be happy alone so I think even if you disagree with what is happening you should still do what society wants because if you don’t then they won’t be friends with you . It’s all about going along so you don’t get left behind. Holden would not conform and that’s why he wasn’t he wasn’t happy.

  1. Your right Tom, we do have to deal with the ways of society, like laws, rules, and regulations, even if we disagree with them with all your being. Your right about how Holden Caulfield is very anti-social and about how he's unhappy with his life, but it is his fault, because he doesn't apply himself in school, he refuses to follow laws, and he also is very critical of the people around him by calling them “phonies” and showing a lack of respect of other people by lieing to their faces by telling them he is someone he actually isn't, like the one kids mom when he told her that he is name was the same as the janitor and that her son was very popular but shy. I also understand what your talking about when you said that sometimes you have to just go along with rules even if you don't agree with them.
